Downtown Tulsa needs a sports souvenir store.

As mentioned in another thread, we have the following teams downtown:
Tulsa Shock - WNBA (Tier 1)
Tulsa Talons - AFL (Tier 1)
Tulsa 66ers - NBDL (Tier 2)
Tulsa Oilers - CHL (Tier 3)
Tulsa Drillers - AA (Tier 3)

I was happy the Drillers have a real souvenir store at ONEOK but I consider it a complete failure it is only accessible from inside the gate. Residents and visitors like to be able to buy merchandise outside of gametime. Think about it, how many OU fans bought their t-shirt or hat at a game? 5%?

Lyon's is a decent tourist store and Dwelling Space fills that whole a bit, but opening a souvenir sports that carries all 5 teams merchandise downtown and all day seems like a no-brainer. The store could also act as a ticket outlet and if you're worried they can't justify being open all day just for those, you could combine it with a sports bar/grill.

Often I don't go to games because of time conflicts, things like that but I'd still like to be able to show my support and also give them some of my money. With 5 teams in downtown a sports merchandise store would allow for a lot of people to vote in support of downtown sports with their money.

Maybe that new t-shirt shop downtown could carry them. Don't remember the name of it. There a thred on here somewhere about it.

I noticed the Wal Mart at 81st and Lewis has Drillers t-shirts.

Not enough room in boomtown... But they could probably have a couple of shirts and cycle through the section with each season.  But that isn't exactly their business model.  They make their own shirts.  I think to get the rights to make your own shirts for things like the WNBA costs you a bit of cash.  Interested to see the Shock merchandising fees vs OU and OSU.

Essentially you want one of these http://phoenix.about.com/od/shoppingandservices/ss/giftshops_6.htm

that is free standing. The ones here and that I have seen in California are part of the venue and open weekdays and week ends as well as during the games. We used to have free standing ones in malls but they got pushed out by national chains that cater to all sports. You need someone like the old "Big Red Sports" that was over at 51st and Harvard. I hope that someone can put something together that would fill that niche.

In Tucson there's still an exclusively U of A store in the Foothills Mall. Last time I was in Woodland Hills I remember seeing an all Oklahoma sports store. That was a few years ago though.

Is the Drillers team store not open regular business hours Monday-Friday? I just assumed they would be, as that seems to be standard operating procedure. I've been in some others that are only accessible from inside the gate, and they just leave the gate open during non-gametimes. That's cool because you can buy a shirt and get a better look at the ballpark if you're not attending a game.

Not as far as I can tell. Field looks closed during non game times.

Saw a flyer in a window downtown that said the Drillers team store is open 10-5 Monday-Friday.

Saw one of those flyers too. It's a good move.
