gift cards to the movies, quiktrip for gas especially for that "poor college student" or Starbucks is always good.  My parents would always give us one large present in our stocking, along with our usual gifts, and then throw in some gift cards for gas, movies, dinner, etc.  I was always appreciative.

I did come up with a clever way to deal with the cash request this year for my girls: Picked up some small LED flashlights which are always handy to have, rolled the $$ around the light and wrapped it.  As of 30 minutes ago, all my wrapping is finished and all gifts are under the tree.  Photos and photo frames are another gift which are universally appreciated and relatively inexpensive.
