If I remember correctly, last year it was said that it had turned into a small show.

Chevrolet, Toyota both skipped it.

I remember reading and seeing on Motorweek a couple of years ago that a lot of the manfacturers were skipping the smaller shows and some of the larger ones as well. I believe that the one here in Phoenix is represented well but it's primarialy the dealers that are bring in cars and maybe a few items for the manufacturer.

I remember it being on only the upper floor, including the vintage cars.  BMW usually skips the show.  Last year I think Audi and Volkswagen also skipped.

this show is a scam.  they won't even give you an exhibit list at the door.  its like paying $7 to see a bearded lady behind the curtain.  There are plenty of free shows here in town throughout the year to see old cars.

Last year at the door they had a sign saying BMW, VW, and Audi were not there.  I don't remember if they listed Chevy.  I think Chevy may have had a local dealership presence but not the factory.

That's why I would like to know before I drive up there if it will be worth going.   I like to see the new cars without driving all over Tulsa.  It would cost me more than $8 in gas compared to seeing the "scam" show.

I won't call the Tulsa Auto Show a "scam" but it is a chance for all of the dealers to show their new cars and a place for various car clubs to show classic and antique cars in one place for a small fee to get in the door. I think that the forst one I went to was in '88 or '89 and it was a way to see a lot of the new cars without driving all over town, and you could get info on ones you might be interested in without having a salesman up your donkey. The Phoenix Auto Show is the same, but some of the mfgs would have concept cars there and it's held on Thanksgiving weekend. The biggest mistake I ever made was giving my info to the people at a Nissan display. The ex and I were thinking about a couple of vehicles, and gave them contact info. Big mistake. By the time we got home a few hours later, we both had four to five emails, and three voicemails from a local Nissan dealer wanting us to come in and look, and offering special trade in values because of talking to them at the show. They actually hounded us for almost a year before we got them to stop contacting us.

I will give Ford credit as a major sponsor of the Phoenix Auto Show, and the Barrett Jackson Auction, since they did not take bail out money. And as a side note, at the 2010 Barrett Jackson at the Chevy display, they had a Chevy Volt for people to see. It was a pretty crappy display because once you got close, you realized it wasn't even an actual prototype. It was a mock up, and you could see that the seats were made from cardboard, and it was basically a a shell with nothing underneath it.

I have gone to the Auto Show every year since 2000 and it's now to the point of being a waste of time with fewer and fewer car makers represented.

Maybe as the economy gets better, some will return and make it a better event to go to. I hope so.

Most bring their current models of some sort.  You can (mostly) sit in one to see if you might like it as a used car in a few years.  I like to look at the cars without driving all over town.  The exhibitors know that most show-goers are not going to buy then so the sales pressure is greatly reduced.  I like to look at the vintage cars too.  I remember when a lot of them (50s models and newer) were new.

It's hard to put a new car smell in a 57 Chev, or a 66 Tempest, but I can dream.  I like looking at the new ones,  but the EMT's at the show banned me from the new car section a few years ago, after I started looking at the sticker prices on some of the models (cars) that I was thinking about buying, and started getting chest pains and panic attacks.

You could probably get a reasonable new car for the price of a nicely restored or original 57 Chev.  You can keep the Tempest but I'd take a GTO.

For the prices that I saw on 57 Chevys, I could have something more than reasonable.  Long, low, red, loud, foreign built, with gull wing doors.

Guess I'll keep looking at Ramblers and Studebaker Commanders.

If you are looking at Studebakers, look at the Supercharged one (Golden Hawk, I had to look it up) or the Avanti.
