We had a visitor on the porch last night:

The cat was not amused.

Very cool.  We have one that visits regularly.  Not sure why, 'cause we have no cat or dog food for it to raid.  I guess it just likes friendly, open, good-natured people...

Was he after cat food?  I know the cat was smart enough not to mess with him.

Once in a while, we get a racoon, too.  Haven't seen him this year, though.

That's the little 'possum.  There's a big one out there too some nights.  It's the biggest, fattest 'possum I've ever seen!  I try to get a picture.

They're so accustomed to cats and people, they don't run farther than the end of the porch when we go out.

Had one once that would actually come up to me when I sat outside at night.  Stepped away from the porch one night, only to come back to find all my meat was gone from my sandwich.  It was a young one.  Scared the hell out of me one night when I was sitting out there barefoot and it came up from behind and touched it's nose to my heel.

Heh, I know a guy who has possums and racoons as pets. They live in his old run-down barn and sure enough, they come when called. Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable with a coon sitting on my shoulder. Those razor-sharp claws would be waaaay too close to my eyes.

I think pretty much the same thing with those sharp teeth of possum's.  So far we have only seen bunnies, squirrals and one skunk in the new place.  Ole Pepe scared the hell out of my better half too. We were out on the front porch (yeah, it's a theme for me) working on some shelves when I saw it running up towards us from behind her.  I just kept my mouth shut and waited till I knew it was a bit of a ways from us before I told her what had just brushed across her leg.

We enjoy all the little animals that come around except for the skunk.  There is at least one living within about 500 feet of the house and all is well until the neighborhood dogs start their ignorant stuff.  Then we all have to suffer.

Plus, as many of them that have rabies, well, when out in the country and see a skunk within range, he probably won't be going home.

Out in Southwest Tulsa we have deer in the woods all around us.  How long will it take for mountain lions to move in?

Chances are you already have coyotes after the deer.  They're opportunists and can infiltrate a suburban neighborhood quite easily.  I saw one last summer just up the street from the house, and we have development all around.
