QuoteCHART: 17 Years After Oklahoma City Bombing, Right-Wing Extremism Is Significant Domestic Terror Threat

Fifty-six percent of domestic terrorist attacks and plots in the U.S. since 1995 have been perpetrated by right-wing extremists, as compared to 30 percent by ecoterrorists and 12 percent by Islamic extremists. Right-wing extremism has been responsible for the greatest number of terrorist incidents in the U.S. in 13 of the 17 years since the Oklahoma City bombing.

Though the terrorist attack on Oklahoma City happened nearly two decades ago, right-wing extremist terrorism remains a significant domestic threat to American security.

Please stop pushing the people and the issues the right wingnutz support. Seek out those the righties find contemptuous.

56%? Sounds like we need to be equally concerned about all types of terrorism.

At least that's how my math works.

I personally like how Think Progress was able to use the numbers to their advantage.  Good job boys!

Essentially 3 terrorists who fly plains into buildings and kill 3,000 people are equivalent to 3 rednecks who threaten the tax man to get the hell off their lawn, or 3 baptist ministers.  Your pick!

Actually the report uses current DHS definitions to classify Right-Wing terrorists:

-"fiercely nationalistic (as opposed to universal and international in orientation)"

-"anti-global"

-"suspicious of centralized federal authority"

-"reverent of individual liberty"

-"believe in conspiracy theories"

-"a belief that one's personal and/or national "way of life" is under attack"

-"a belief in the need to be prepared for an attack either by participating in paramilitary preparations and training or survivalism"

-"impose strict religious tenets or laws on society (fundamentalists)"

-"insert religion into the political sphere"

-"those who seek to politicize religion"

-"supported political movements for autonomy"

-"anti-abortion"

-"anti-Catholic"

-"anti-nuclear"

Here is the report that was subsequently withdrawn in disgrace.

Here is the actual data from START Johnson used for his research.

Page 24 is of special interest.

Johnson cherry picked some very extensive data to produce a document that was frankly an embarrassment.   Napalatano withdrew the document quickly but not before it could become fodder for the right-wing talking heads, and Johnson was fired, making him a hero to the progs.

I believe in protecting the rights of individuals, as framed in the constitution ("reverent of individual liberty"), so I suppose I am a terrorist according to DHS.  Actually I bet that about 30% to 50% of the population are Right-wing terrorists according to these definitions.

Janet Reno was able to massively inflate the numbers of "Militia" by including Civil War reenactors, partially based on the revelation that Andreas Strassmeir came to the U.S. to participate in a reenactment.

The graph tells me that we now need more anarchist incidents. Maybe we can help them organize.

I don't think you understand stats. This data reflects number of incidents but you are saying there's no mutual exclusion over damage. Are you essentially equivocating the success of one attack with the preponderance of "neighborhood incidences?" Twisted logic Gaspar. This survey follows consistency. It's not based on extrapolation.  And that list isn't about culture wars. It's about where the incidence of terrorism occurs.
