ONEOK Field will become the first minor league ballpark to feature a full suite-level LED ribbon video board.

The Tulsa Drillers announced Thursday that the board will be installed in time for their Texas League season opener on April 3.

According to the Drillers, the LED display will be similar to the boards that are prominent in many major league ballparks and NBA and NHL arenas. Its size will be approximately 3 feet high and 450 feet in length — the largest in minor league baseball. The board will cover the suite level's facade area and will include 1 million LEDs (light-emitting diodes).

"There will be a wow factor," Drillers general manager Mike Melega said. "It's going to take our game experience to a new level."
ONEOK Field opened in 2010 and also will be the home of the 2015 Big 12 baseball tournament and the new USL PRO soccer franchise that will begin play in 2015.

"The goal of (Drillers owners) Dale and Jeff Hubbard is to keep improving the stadium," Melega said. "We did that when the splash pad was added, but this addition will impact all fans."

Fans will be informed and entertained by the new display before, during and after all games.

"This is a one-of-a-kind deal for a minor league ballpark," Melega said.

The Drillers are funding the project that is expected to cost approximately $350,000.

Dallas-based TS Sports will install the new display. TS Sports is a high-end electronic video board systems integrator that specializes in state-of-the art LED technology. TS Sports installed the Drillers' video board in left field and has products at Dallas' American Airlines Center that is used by the Dallas Mavericks and Stars, and New York's Met-Life Stadium, home of the NFL's Giants and Jets.

Kinda surprised that Daktronics wasn't chosen, as they are pretty much the de facto signage for arenas and ballparks around the country...well, except for those noted above.  I'm guessing they put in a lower bid.

Gag....What a mistake......!!!

Why?  They already have signage..this just changes the signage to something programmable and dynamic.

I have bought advertising for virtually every print, television, and radio outlet in Tulsa over my career. I have bought online ads, billboards and done direct mailers. I bought ads on sacks at pharmacies. I have sponsored concerts, sporting events, and expos. I hope you have seen my ads on this very website.

The limited dollars I have spent with the Drillers for adverting have been among buys of all. I get a lot of positive feedback so I know it works.

This is the type of advertising opportunity that I want. Their audience is a great demographic and the Drillers deliver.

Power is nothing till you use it.

Do you just have feedback or any raw numbers? We want to advertise with them, but we're only doing TV/radio/billboards around town until we have a big advertising pool.

I'll make you a deal on the top of this page.

It's kind of a moot point now, but what happened to that auxiliary scoreboard that was along the third base line the first season? It was always kind of screwed up (all the crooked numbers displayed incorrectly).

They took it down after the first season and never replaced it. I would've thought there'd be some kind of warranty on that.

Hopefully the ribbon board rectifies the problem of having the only scoreboard in center field (glare early in the game is terrible). Of course that's only a problem for the minority of fans that are there to watch baseball.
