The better half and I were wondering where are the best places to go in Tulsa/Tulsa metro for live music.

Somewhere that plays Jazz or acoustic music. Something laid back or a place where up and coming singer/songwriters play. We would like to avoid places where the teeny boppers go.

Any thoughts?

Tsunami Sushi...

Overall, this city is horrible as far as quality live music goes.

You might try Lola's at the Bowery- they seem to have a good mix of laid-back music.  We especially like Mezclave for latin jazz.  Does not look like they are playing there anytime soon, but will be at 818 on 3/24.

Also, a performer that plays in various places around town you might like is Steve Liddell.  He's at A Bar and Kitchen every Friday night.

Keep an eye on the concert list at All Souls Unitarian Church.

For my tastes...they pull in the best talent for any venue in Tulsa.

Looking for attractions for our upcoming visit to Tulsa I found okjazz.org

We are looking at March 18th........  Annie Ellicott Trio with special guests Hey world, listen up!....?

Anyone care to comment on this event or venue?

I find that statement to be ridiculous. Went bar hopping downtown last night and heard several good bands.

To the original poster, try The Continental next door to McNellie's at 1st & Elgin. Great spot to catch live music.

Why do I have to travel so much then?

I don't know ..... "Best" is really  a word that applies to your personal preference...

I've seen bands in many different locations....

But I always seem to gravitate towards the shows I see that are more real than stage.. The place next to McNellie's kinda reminds me of some of the venues.. Good acoustics, ambiance, etc.

For my money I would rather watch something at a place like Cain's...

Or in some basement, or garage somewhere.. More akin to where the songs were actually created.

Many of the concerts that are most memorable were done outside..

For what you are looking for I highly recommend:

Paddy's, NW corner of 81st & Memorial on Fridays and Saturdays.  Same gig there for about five years, "The Karboms".  Very laid back, it's not a meat market and they play great originals as well as covers.  Good food as well.  Might want to avoid the place on St. Pat's day if you are allergic to large crowds.

You can also catch them with their "big band" at Pickles Pub at 51st & Harvard on Tuesdays.
