My wife's parents live in K.C. so we do stuff there alot.

I'm thinking we may just go back to vegas for two days.  We will probably splurge on the hotel room this time.  I'll have a month or two to think about it.

Double A

Santa Fe is a nice place to relax. Pricey though.

If you are okay with flying somewhere, I highly recommend Ft. Lauderdale.  Plenty to do there, they have really cleaned up the place yet have reasonible room rates, should have nice temps during the day, Los Olas shopping district and New River can't be beat.  Port Everglades is at the south end of the hotel district, you can take a day cruise over to the Bahamas on Discovery Sun, gamble there for a few hours and be back at your hotel by 11pm, or stay overnight one night on Grand Bahama and take the boat back the next day.

What about Austin?  Whenever business takes me there, I bump it to a weekend and hubby goes with me.  We stay downtown and have a great time.  6th Street is really neat, you can have a fancy dinner, hit some hole in wall bars, or just listen to some good music.  There were great eats all around.  Also, that big park (sorry, name escapes me) was very nice.  Weather will likely be good there in January.  San Marcos is nearby and has some great shopping.   On that line, you could always consider San Antonio . . . riverwalk is really nice, great hotels on the river, again weather will likely be nice.  Check out ExpressJet.  My grandmother came to visit Tulsa for the first time ever and flew them, she was very pleased, thought the service was wonderful, and the price was amazing, $150, roundtrip, non-stop.

Enjoy the time away . . . . It's always good to get time away from the kids!

San Antonio... so dubbed "the second hometown of all Texans" by hubby. Mi Tierra Mexican Restaurant - open 24 hours, coke in glass bottles and a huge Mexican bakery; the Mexican marketplace adjacent to Mi Tierra, Alamo and Riverwalk, drinks in the historic Menger hotel; an hour drive to historic, charming Fredericksburg. Easy flights on SWA.

I love the Menger Hotel.

About ten years ago I got rooms there for $69 a night. I remember the big Victorian lobby and the whole area of downtown San Antonio being just beautiful.

Ft Worth and stay at the Stockyards hotel.  Dont even go near Dallas.  Take in the Museums, all three, have a great meal at Lonesome Dove.
