I really like open-source programs like Mozilla on my computer (Windows XP).

Can anyone recommend a good open-source program that prevents viruses?

Are there any open-source programs to clean/repair minor Windows XP problems?

AVG by Grisoft isn't open-source, but it is free for personal, non-commercial use. It's worked well for me.

Do you mean a firewall/blocker program or an anti-virus program that protects and cleans?  I found a few anti-virus progs.

Here are some free and open source reg tools:

But in the end...are there really any "minor" Windows problems...[;)]

That's why I use mac...

For Virus I back up what Bates said:  AVG.

It is highly respected and has worked well for me.

I use avast, you registar once a year and it is free on up to 3 computers.

If you want open source why don't you try an open source operating system 99% of them are free and I do not even run an anti virus.

There are several live CD's, the operating system runs 100% off the CD no need for a hard drive.

And another for AVG. Works better than most commercial products I know.

Another satisfied AVG user!

I've used the Zone Alarm free firewall too, but not on this machine.  It has both Norton and MS firewalls for the moment.

May you live in interesting times.

Viruses? Computer problems? I know not of these things. They are foreign to me.

Hmmm ... I detect a trend.

AVG it is. I'll install it in a few days. Thanks for the advice. I've never heard of it until you all mentioned it.

AVG is like porn. Tons of computers have it but no-one talks about it.

Spybot Search and Destroy is a great free program. Adaware is also a good, free program.
