Anyone remember the whole stink Oral started about 20 or 25 years ago when he suggested Jenks should change it's name "...to something with more 'sparkle'"?

I believe his suggestion was something along the lines of "Riverside".

Maybe ORU can be re-named Jenks University.

That was the actual reply to Oral for his [more than] suggestion by the Jenks City Council. It's in the minutes.

maybe we should keep the name, and get rid of the Christians. Then it would be a decent place to consider for higher learning.

Unfortunately, that is the reputation ORU has created for all Christians.  ORU has damaged the outside perception of all Chrisitans, as well as Tulsa and Oklahoma.  600 ft. tall Jesus giants, locking oneself in a tower until people give money, and now misappropriation of funds, possible tax evasion?  I doubt the ORU name will ever fully recover from all the bad press.  And don't even get me started on how there was once an institution of medical science that didn't believe in concepts such as evolutionary biology...

Although yet to be substantiated... it is rumored  that Richard Roberts now calls the University "IOU"..

Just when you think things can't get any worse at ORU, Pat Robertson comes calling.

Way to shore up the credibility and integrity of the "University".

LOL  That is good.

Hometown

I was hoping they would close and the campus would be bought by a progressive private school.  I'm an optimist.  The buildings are important but generally ORU is one of the reasons Tulsa isn't as cool as it used to be.  I mean we had plenty of religious nuts when I was growing up here but not like now.  I've come to think that evangelical Protestants are pretty darn strange across the board.  Their services are like really bad group therapy sessions, with these old guys hopping around and shouting and acting out.  Not like staid old Modern St. Andrew's Presbyterian on Yale where I had catechism.

Now thats the most "interesting" thing I have heard yet.  Richard Roberts et al were just a bunch of amatures mostly concerned with what was going on in their own narrow realm. Pat Roberston and his institutions play for keeps and if joined with ORU would start actively playing a more purposeful role in local political, social and community matters. They carefully make long range plans, quietly, steadily, put their people in place, and make things happen the way they want. Nothing wrong with that, everyone does it. But they do it well. So you would definitely have to be aware that it will potentially be a new game in town.

Sounds more like an Al Qaeda sleeper cell to me. Yeah, I went there.
