Psychic predictions 2008

I can't decide which way to go with my much anticipated predictions for 2008. Do I go with the obvious ones (the summer will be hot) or the amazing ones (BigFoot found shopping in Utica Square)?

Here are some of each...

A well-known local restaurant will fail.

An incumbent city councilor or county commissioner will be defeated in their re-election bid.

Oral Roberts University will be purchased by  Jenks Public Schools and turned into the new high school.

HB 1804 will be found unconstitutional, but the legislature will pass a bill making Spanish television stations have closed captioning in English.

A fast food restaurant will test market dessert burritos.

Celine Dion will develop laryngitis and cancel her concert tour. The BOK arena will replace her with Hannah Montana and double the ticket price.

The old city hall will be torn down and replaced by Bell's amusement park.

Union and Jenks football teams will be embroiled in a lawsuit over recruiting players from other Tulsa high schools.

None of the major presidential candidates will visit Tulsa in 2008.

BatBoy will be found and be placed at the Tulsa Animal shelter as a promotional tool.

The Mayor will be photographed planting trees and PSO will quickly run power lines overhead.

TulsaWorld.com will lose their website temporarily and locals will get their news from this forum.

The comprehensive plan will debated at public meetings throughout Tulsa and the only consensus will be that we need more drive-thru banks.

The steriod scandal will be expanded and dozens of members of Congress and their staffers will be suspended.
Power is nothing till you use it.

Since this is a free for all, let me latch onto the Steroid prediction:

"There is just no easy fix for baseball on this matter" said the commissioner.  Really?  Why not test players either before every game or at least at random and suspend WITHOUT PAY any player caught using steroids.  And hey, its baseball... 3 strikes and you're out for good.  If you are going to use steroids or HGH to help heal an elbow you should have your MD file with the league, if you needed steroids after a asthma (I even hate the sound of the word) attack file with the league.  If you think you might have had a protein shake that might have accidentally injected you with elephant semen (or whatever) you had better file, or you will be a spectator soon.

Maybe, just maybe that would work better than doing nothing.  Just my guess but...  idiots.

Bells downtown would be awesome.  I'm thinking more in the East end area, but whatever.
- - -

How long until Jenks and Union have college level "athlete/students" instead of high school students who play athletics?
- - -

Tulsa votes for the republican nod guaranteed, I would not waste my time with a visit either.  And forget about OKC, that's even more of a lost cause for the blue team.
- - -

I'm thinking PSO will use this to get a rate hike to bury power lines.  They have wanted to for some time but could not push the rate hike AND some people complained too much.  Lets hope so (under line wires, underline wires, no green box in my yard, and stop!).

Forgive my pessimism, but I've been without power since last Monday at 4:45am, and there is no end in sight....

PSO will pass on damage costs to ratepayers.  Kathy Taylor will be blamed in Tulsa World comments section.
----------
CIty of Tulsa will finally get the last of the tree debris off the streets in May 2008.  Kathy Taylor will be blamed in Tulsa World comments section.
----------
Your neighbors yards and trees will remain littered with with broken limbs until at least 2009.  Kathy Taylor will be blamed in Tulsa World comments section.
----------
The stop the box campaign will disappear.  I know I won't even try to understand their side anymore.  Kathy Taylor will be blamed in Tulsa World comments section.
----------
There will be at least 3 major development annoucnements for the East End, none will come to fruition.
----------
Someone will post a rumor on Tulsanow.org about Six Flags coming to BA
----------
Saks Fifth Avenue will leave Tulsa.
----------
The Arena will open, but without as much fanfare as most are predicting.  The Tulsa World comments section will explode with blame for Kathy Taylor.

Wingnut

Tulsa streets won't get fixed.

After a vote of the people, the Arkansas River will be diverted somewhere else and the riverbed will be paved from Sand Springs to Bixby and turned into a new toll road and lined with restaurants.

sgrizzle

During 2008, lots of plans for street repair and widening will be made, we will start paying for it, but nothing major will get fixed.
---------------------------------------
I-44 Widening actually starts, displaced homes and businesses complain about how they should've been paid 3x their current tax roll assesment.
---------------------------------------
PSO buries lines, cuts trees, and the residents are largely quiet about it.
---------------------------------------
1 out of every 10 tree trimming person who came to Tulsa for the storm will stay, realizing they can make a long-term home here.
---------------------------------------
A plan for the East End will come out and will have traction. It won't be GDP's plan, but it won't be wal-mart either.
---------------------------------------
Another tragedy will happen. People will post inappropriate or crazy responses to the Tulsa World article. Rinse. Repeat.
---------------------------------------
Gas prices will hover about where they are. "Pure gas" dealers will start a PR campaign against blended dealers.
---------------------------------------
No-one of note will come out as an opponent to Kathy Taylor's re-election.
---------------------------------------
City Council elections will have several close contests.
---------------------------------------
Quiktrip adds more food to their already wide menu, and I eat it.
---------------------------------------
More Chipotle locations open and are immediately filled with people ages 18-28.
---------------------------------------
Supporters of "The American Project" suggest a major design change in order to get funding. They suggest the entire statue be lighted and his clothing will be covered with sponsor logos. Each body part will also have it's own named sponsor.
---------------------------------------

Whew!  I was getting that all your predictions were plausible there SQ... until I hit the last one.  If the giant Indian can't be naked, I don't want it. [:P]

Burger King can finally use their slogan "Home of the Whopper"!

Randi Miller decides the Golden Driller is inappropriate for the fairgrounds area and urges the board to have it moved, within two weeks, to the middle of the Arkansas River near the new Jenks Stadium whereupon it's hard hat is replaced with a ball cap and it is renamed the Jenks Golden Thriller but is commonly known as the Collossus at Jones because of its propensity to attract small aircraft. ORU foots the bill for outfitting the Thriller with a pair of much needed new striped pants and a golden glove. However, someone decides a small fountain spouting from between his legs and ending up on a fake downtown Tulsa skyline below might be nice. It is immediately approved when local chamber officials realize they can sell tons of window stickers for area trucks with the image.

I swear, I saw it all in a dream.

I can tell ya a prediction~ Fuel will hit $4.00 a gallon around May of 2008. Just in time for the Memorial Holiday. Prices will stay in that area all thru the summer and if a hurricane hits we could be flirting with $5.00 a gallon fuel.[:)]

Double A

Tulsa is placed on the dirty air list. The city panics, due to the lack of planning and resources needed to address the problem.

Alan Hart is awarded the contract to update the comprehensive plan(probably more personal preference than prediction).

INCOG continues to be a waste of the city of Tulsa's resources.

Paul Tay will run for City Council in District 9. After losing the election, but a gaining a surprising number of votes, he will announces his campaign for Mayor in 2010.

Kathy Taylor will continue to grow the ineffectual political pork barrel bureaucracy of city government by expanding the lack of accountability to the voters by creating more new committees and appointing the politically motivated usual suspects to the ABC's.

The Working in Neighborhoods Department will continue to be a one liaison show, instead of the four that were budgeted and promised. The leftover funds will be used to pay for raises for da Mare's staff.

Kathy Taylor will put forward a well funded slate of handpicked candidates(puppets) in the upcoming elections. They will become known as Kathy's clowns.

You made the same prediction last year and then argued with everyone who was involved or informed. We didn't go on the dirty air list in 2007, but if you say it enough times, sooner or later you might be right.

Power is nothing till you use it.

Wrinkle

EMSA will decry slacking use as a need to double the cost on our water bills, which will also be raised another 17% for each of the next three years.

Uh, we narrowly dodged the bullet. Had it not been for the unusually cool summer we had, that wouldn't have been the case. We were lucky, but our luck will run out. Keep  up this high risk, high stakes, gamble of band-aids and feel good PR measures if you want, but it doesn't change the fact that the city is ill-equipped to deal with this if it happens, nor does it remove the pollution from the air. You know that if the EPA changes the standards, as many are predicting, Tulsa will not be able to meet the new standards under our current "plan". If the City Council 11/27/07 UED committee meeting is any indication, Tulsa's response to cleaner air standards will be the policy advocated by state Rep. Phil Richardson(Chair, House Environment and Wildlife Committee) and Terry Neese(Grassroots Impact) to hire lobbyists to lobby against cleaner air standards. Being in  denial about the problem is bad enough, but complacently enabling it is much worse, IMO.
