Now For The Cliche' New Years Resolutions...

I really don't make New Year's resolutions.  However, since hearing about the new "wonder drug" Chantix, I thought I would give it a shot so I can try to kick nicotine for good.

I've either smoked or used smokeless tobacco products for most of the last 30 years.  I even tried to quit using nicotine gum.  I got addicted to that!!!

I managed to quit for a year or two and started up again 17 or so years ago and have gone non-stop in one form or anther until New Year's eve.  I had started the Chantix 10 days prior, and my GP had recommended waiting till after Xmas for my quit date.  It had more to do with my annual physical than it did making it a resolution, but pancakes!

So far so good, though my timing sucked for quitting.  I've got a killer head cold which is adding to the fun.  So if I'm a little crankier than usual- mystery solved.  It's kind of hard to tell if I'm actually having any witdrawls or not with all the weird stuff in my sinuses and inner ear.

Yesterday was just fine withdrawl-wise before the worst symptoms hit.  This is hardly a spam for Chantix, but if you are wanting to quit nicotine it's definitely worth looking into.

So, what has everyone else resolved to do this year???

Among several resolutions is that I am going WalMart free in 2008. I rarely shop there anyway so it shouldn't be too hard.

Congrats on your decision, Conan. I wish you the best of luck, not that you need it.. sounds like you are doing quite well thus far.

Now if I could only get my mom to make such a 'resolution' and check out Chantix.

I've got nothin for a new years resolution so far, I may come up with something.

You go Conan.  Two people here at work are on Chantix and they are thrilled with the results.

Keep at it, Conan.  Quitting smoking was one of the hardest things I ever did.  But it's one of the best, too.

You're fighting the good fight; don't give up.

I went from least at 3 times a week to not spending a dime there since like september.

I need to start a recovery group.

Spending LESS at Walmart.  It's hard though because our neighbourhood store is right across the street from us[:(!]  BAD! BAD!

Buy more organic foods.

Continue my exercise programme at the gym.

Be more earth friendly: up recycling attempts (it's not so easy in Oklahoma).

Use more "earth friendly" products in the home.

Buy only what I really NEED as opposed to unnecessary stuff we don't need.

Continue my quest to buy less and less crap MADE IN CHINA.

im going to break i dont know... approximately 25 years of habitual fingernail biting.  I chipped a tooth chomping on a thumbnail a few years ago.  I dont want to make it any worse..plus its pretty gross.

good luck quitting smoking.  i only smoked for 6 or 7 years, it was rough for a couple weeks, that's for sure.

quit cold turkey july 5, 2005.

mind over matter.  anytime i'd get cravings i'd concentrate on my breathing and voila 5 minutes later, craving's gone....worked for me.

I want to stop being so apathetic, though I'm not sure what the point is.

Also want to get back into shape (I think i used the flu last year as an excuse to stop working out)

Probably should add some other things, bit I'm incredibly lazy.  Maybe I'll work on that...

Day 17 w/o nicotine.  Next Monday is three weeks since I last ingested nicotine.  They say if you can do anything for three weeks it becomes habit.  Chantix is a miracle drug.  If anyone else is thinking of quitting smoking or some other form of tobacco- this is it.

I really can't stand the smell of smoke now.  We've had a few arguments at my office in the last week about people smoking in the front office, drafts right into mine and makes me mad as hell.

Other than that, it's been a ton easier than I remember it being 20 or so years ago when I quit the last time.

Good job on the no smoking thing. Mine was to start eating better I had really been slacking and with my sister working for me, well she cooks a lot and kept bringing cakes, crispy cremes, cookies, etc. I would curse her as I gorged on all that crap. She finally got the hint and I have been doing fairly well.

My New Year's resolution was to stop procrastinating...but I've been putting it off.

Man, it took you long enough to tell us about it. [:P]
