Perhaps they should have said, "convenient to downtown".
"When you only have two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other."-Chinese proverb. "Arts a staple. Like bread or wine or a warm coat in winter. Those who think it is a luxury have only a fragment of a mind. Mans spirit grows hungry for art in the same way h

You have to remember the hotel building was there first, not Wal Mart. I think it was called the Grandview back then. That whole area was an empty lot. There used to be a house on the corner of 81st & Lewis where the Sonic is now.

I remember the Grandview: I believe it was Oral Roberts' project at one time, wasn't it? And if I remember correctly, no smoking and no alcohol served....

Yup - when I came to Tulsa in 1995, I stayed there for a few days and then actually got a job there. OREA built and owned the hotel. My paychecks were from OREA. We had to sign the same employment agreement thing that ORU and ORM employees did.

They sold the hotel to Ralph Jones. (Great guy - I think he owns the MicroTel at the fairgrounds and has a vested interest in the gambling thing at the racetrack). He sold it to Hilton people after a small remodel.

Great to see it redone. That place leaked like crazy because of faulty design and cheap up-keep.

Actually met my wife there when we both worked there. [^]

That agreement being what exactly? What did you have to agree to?

No alcohol consumption. No tobacco of any kind. Moral clause and agreement. Violation of agreement = grounds for termination.

Weird thing is - they had a smoke hole out back. We also had smoking and non-smoking rooms for guests.

And I would literally go balistic in that kind of environment!
