"It could be the toughest crackdown on smoking in the workplace that Tulsa has ever seen. But is it also a sign of things to come -- will your employer be following suit? Warren Place where they're really trying to clear the air. Julie Beltrang is taking a smoke break. For her, it's a way to relieve stress. "You know you are not supposed to bring your personal life to work but sometime you have stress and that's how they release it. Julie and a lot of others are going to have to find a new kind of stress buster -- at least during their work day.

Thousands of employees got to work this morning to find a memo in their inbox. It's an email and it says that the entire campus of Warren Place is about to become tobacco free. Not only is smoking banned inside buildings. But also in ALL outside common areas. That includes parking garages , parking lots, walking trails and sidewalks and even private streets.

NewsChannel 8 myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?Allory Hudacek has been a smoker for 21 years and wonders how Warren Place will enforce it. "Supposedly -- the other buildings will have security guards I know we're not supposed to smoke in the parking lot of our building but peole do it all the time. I guess if they hire a security guard people could get in trouble for it. "

Warren Place plans to enforce the ban 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year . They cites employee health as top reason. For Julie -- though -- it's a double edge sword. "In a way it's surprising in another way it's not surprsing because it's happeneing everywhere."

Warren Place is offering employees several programs to help quit smoking. Some are even on site for their convenience."

This seems somewhat extreme to me, but it's better then walking out of any building into a cloud full of smoke.
"You cant solve Stupid."
"I don't do sorry, sorry is for criminals and screw ups."

sgrizzle

The state already did this, can't imagine why Warren Place couldn't.

Well, sorta. I work in Warren One and at a recent all-hands meeting we were informed that Parmenter (the partnership that owns and operates said buildings) will not enforce the smoking ban if you're smoking in your car with the windows rolled up -- unless there's a complaint.

This immediately brought to mind images of Cheech and Chong, Jeff Spicoli, et al, opening the door of a vehicle and seeing smoke pour from the car.

Hey I used to resemble that remark, till about five weeks ago.  Thank God for Chantix.

Worm dirt still smells better than a station wagon full of barbequed clutch on a six hour drive from Sedalia to Tulsa don't you think?  (okay, sorry to the innocent by-standers- inside joke).

I can understand banning smoking in indoor spaces, but outside? This is kind of a slippery slope.

Ok, so when will they ban the stinky people that will come into work with smoke infused into their clothes and skin?  That's what bugs me the worst when I step onto an elevator right around the end of the lunch break.
