Plus, Walmart operates on a 3% margin.  They are not screwing employees to line investors pockets with fat cash.   3% margin is about as thin as you are going to find for a Fortune 500 company, let alone a top 10.

The poor wages are also reflective to a large degree of the quality of employees.  Why do you think Targets are clean and friendly and Walmarts seem unkept and have notoriously bad service?  You get what you pay for.  Nothing against Walmart employees, but on the whole they are probably inferior to their better paid brethren.

There is a cost to poor labor practices.  Lesser employees, higher turnover, poor moral...
