Does anyone remember?

Was having a discussion today with my boss about murders, and he told me of something he remembers that I would like to find out more on.  He's not sure when it was, but thinks it was in the 70's.  He told me that there was a period of time when someone was killing people in Tulsa, and leaving body parts wrapped in boxes like presents in locations around town.  He said that one of the local news channels got in trouble because because it had aired a decapitated head.

If it happened in Tulsa, I sure don't remember it.  There was an unsolved murder or two in the mid- '70's on the jogging trails at River Parks, but I don't remember any dismemberment.

Sounds like a movie I saw once... I think it was "Seven" with Brad Pitt.  I'll never forget that ending!

yeah, I've done quiet a bit of reading on Tulsa history, and have never come across anything like this.  This is why I believe in the old saying "doubt everything you hear, and half of what you see".  Figured I would pick the brain trust of this site to see if it would pan out.

Your boss is exceeding his authority and filling you full of it. Did not happen.

I think he's messing with you, that's almost a threat. I'd document it.

I'm a white guy working in an indian casino, do you really think they would accept any doumenting? lol

The sad thing about all of this, I really think he believes it.  That's actually the biggest reason I thought I would check it out.

Maybe it was a William Bernhardt novel. I heard he writes between DUIs.

I was a member of the criminal justice system for twenty five durings during that era and do not recall any such event.  As earlier reported we had several unsolved murders, but nothing as described, to best of my memory

Did he tell this story around the campfire while roasting marshmallows?

Was anyone ever arrested in the expressway shootings that happened a few years back? Someone was taking pot shots at travelers on the Creek Expressway if I remember.

I remember those.  As far as I know, they have not caught them yet.  Which means they most likely won't

Hang on, I think there may be a kernel of truth to this.  Not that there was a mass murderer or body parts strewn all over Tulsa, but this does ring a bell.

A while back I was part of the Broken Arrow Citizen's Police Academy (don't knock it, it was actually kind of fun) and we got to hear a lecture by one of the detectives.  He said that a long time ago, late 70s or early 80s if I remember right, someone found a suspicious cooler in the area of Elm and the BA, I think where Bass Pro is now.  The cooler was full of body parts carefully wrapped up in tinfoil.  It wasn't an entire body, but they were parts from the same person -- 20 or so pounds of stuff like eyes, hands and, um, a very personal area of a woman.

This stumped the BA police for quite some time, since it didn't match any missing person reports.  Long story short, some chance info and collaboration with other police departments caused them to discover the body parts originated in Missouri.  It was an older woman who had apparently been snookered by a younger woman who took advantage of her.  Apparently older was about to squeal on younger, so younger whacked her.  As part of the disposal process, she chopped the body up and dumped some of the parts in Broken Arrow.  I think they did eventually catch the murderer.

Sorry if the details are a little vague; it's been a while since I've heard this.  But it's likely that's what your boss was talking about.
