Going by the Tulsa County Fairgrounds, I've noticed that they have levelled so much of this. In order, it seems they've levelled the old brick art deco buildings next to the IPE building that has the quik trip logo on it these days. They have taken out the livestock barns, replacing them with some unattractive stalls. They've taken out the old flea market building. Is the Fairgrounds Pavilion next?

Most people think that the fairgrounds renovation looks very nice.  The Pavillion already received a makeover if I am not mistaken.  The old fairgrounds building was hideous as was the exchange center.  They now have modern facilities instead of WW1 type buildings.  From what I understand, they are also doing construction on the old Army National Guard Armory building.

I can't say I miss them.  It could be because I was not paying close enough attention to Art Deco details, but I can attest that the barns and facilities currently there are wonderful and appreciated by participants.

/grew up in Iowa, spent plenty of time in and around livestock barns at fair grounds.

I have never heard of anyone calling the old EXPO Cafeteria building Deco, it was built after the golden age of art deco in Tulsa and in my opinion it takes more than a little glass block to make deco, in my opinion.

The Pavilion has been significantly renovated and is a valued deco prize to the community.  The Armory was saved from the wrecking ball, has been re-roofed and will at some point be fully renovated, although one (in my opinion ugly) addition to it was demolished in order to make room on the south side for the new building (now under construction) which will house the central catering support and kitchen facilities.

If you liked the old barns, you're the only one I know of and I learned to ice skate there and have great memories of those days (and I don't even miss them but to each to their own).

The new barns stall and show thousands of annimals regularly in first class clean and airy facilities which attract local, regional and national shows that boost our local economy.  The old barns stalled hundredes and attracted flies.

I think all of the changes have been very positive. That old cafeteria building or whatever it was, was a terrible eyesore and needed to go. It didnt look deco to me, just looked like an ugly, cheaply built, appendage that didnt match and didnt belong. The buildings worth saving have been saved and renovated which includes the Pavilion which just went through a lot of work and improvements. But apparently you didnt recognize that or you wouldnt be suggesting that it may be torn down.

No, what I am saying is, due to what had been torn down already, I'm hoping that the Pavilion does not meet with a similar fate.

Why do you have reason to believe it might?  They have torn down crap and fixed up the good stuff,"including the pavilion". You saying the Pavilion is crap? Or that the renovations of the Pavilion were somehow preparations for tearing it down?

No, I am not saying that the Pavilion is crap. But I have seen how they tore down Bell's (which, to my mind, was not crap either), and a number of buildings there, such as the old flea market building and such, and I'm hoping that they will at least keep the Pavilion. My concern is, they start tearing this down and that, well, where will it stop?

MJ, as Artist made quite clear, the pavilion is not coming down.

Chill.

I agree Artist.  About 3 months ago, I took my car in to be serviced at a shop on 11th street, and then walked (yes I walked) back to my house at 26th & Yale.  I took the opportunity to walk through the fairgrounds and make note of all the changes.  I found all the new construction to be positive and generally pleasing to fairgrounds development.  The only complaint I have regarding the demise of Bell's Park is just out of nostalgia, but Bell's had been neglected and run down for many years, so the demise of Bell's may not be such a bad thing.

From what I have observed, the Tulsa Fairgrounds has not looked better in years, and all the new construction and improvements have been $ well spent.
