The Israelis have my respect as a top-drawer military power, but I'd respect them more if they behaved a lttle more decently in the West Bank and less like an occupying army much akin to the way the Soviet Red Army in Berlin during 1945-1949.

The Israelis systematically tried to exterminate all Muslims from Earth?

The Israeli response is over bearing and their actions as well as knowledge of their actions in Hebron go back many years, and were even chronicled in a book in the 90's: Hebron Journal by Art Gish.  This "news" is a rehashed and ongoing situation.  They are over reacting to a perceived threat because they either don't know or don't care what parties are actually responsible for it (similar to US atrocities in Vietnam, but overlapped with domestic security issues like the war on terrorism).

While bad enough in it's own right, comparing such action to the wholesale extermination of people based on their "race" is an exercise in hyperbole.

Nazi Germany:  State policy to kill as many jews as they could because Hitler needed a scape goat.

Israel:  State policy to stop violence from Palestinians by nearly any means necessary because subsets of Palestinians have a declared purpose of killing all Jews in Israel -  often resulting in oppression of civilians AND too many rogue hostile acts towards civilians.

You don't see a difference there?  Threatening to kill children in front of their parents vs. gassing the entire family to death.  Lining men up against a wall and making them spread their legs far apart vs. lining men up against a wall and seeing how many a single bullet could kill.    Beating a small boy for information vs. injecting poison into a small boys eye to see what happens - then killing him.

What the Israeli's are doing is neither right nor effective in the long term (or they wouldn't still be having issues there).  BUT, there are differences between Hitler and Israel - and I believe trying to compare the two belittles the Israelis' over bearing approaches in Hebron while simultaneously mocking the severity and suffering of the Holocaust.

It is important to remember that not all Israelis are cut from the same cloth.  Israel has been ruled by their war mongering far right wing for a while now.  We lost a great peace maker when Rabin was assassinated.

There is a left wing in Israel.  There are peace makers in Israel.  There are Israeli soldiers who refuse to serve in the West Bank.  There is a great diversity of opinion in Israel.  There are organizations like Jews for Peace in Palestine.

I think a more appropriate comparison would be Jimmy Carter's comparison of Israel's treatment of Palestinians to Apartheid in South Africa.

Nothing new here. The originator of the thread is an Arab sympathizer. Not that I'm not. I feel for Lebanon. CF's post is right on.

One of the things about living through the civil rights movement is that it made you realize that all people have value and deserve to live with dignity.  That includes Semitic people.

Equating the IDF with Nazis is a grotesque slur of the greatest magnitude.  Issuing that is like dropping the 'n' word or the 'f' word.  That is the stupidest, most vile, evil association one could ever make.  That was great! Good job!  Terrific!

The Nazis were genocidal-a war crime unto itself; i could say many negative things about how the Israelis carry out their end of the conflict, but I'll not call them genocidal. No, I still tend to think their behavior tends to rival the Soviets in East Prussia, 1944-1945, but without the astronomical body count.

Sad? It was stupid and evil and vile and all that, but I am not about to say it was sad.  The thread was supposed to be funny like the Pope, thing, too, right?  That is true art, people, a trifecta of insults! Brilliant!

Godwin's Law (from the second definition on the page):

"A term that originated on Usenet, Godwin's Law states that as an online argument grows longer and more heated, it becomes increasingly likely that somebody will bring up Adolf Hitler or the Nazis. When such an event occurs, the person guilty of invoking Godwin's Law has effectively forfieted the argument."

With that in mind, then, I'd say I'm safe in comparing them to the Soviet Red Army in many respects.
