This morning for the third time in as many weeks I've seen kids biking in the median of riverside from 31st to 41st.  THIS IS TOTALLY DANGEROUS.  Please be careful if you see them.  This morning one of the kids was heading south on Riverside in the median, no lights, no helmet just a backpack. He jumped off the median at 41st and headed east on 41st down the cernter line!  It was around 6AM.  The other two times I've seen two of them around 5ish PM heading north.  I called the police once and they just couldn't get there in time.  If you see them respond to this post with a time so I can alert the police to a time frame.  This must be a new game of chicken because they have no-fear.  I'm really afraid for them.

Thanks

Yikes!  At first I thought I had seen this quite a few times, people squeezing between the construction barrier and the roadway...  But these are children headed to elementary school?  That's nuts!

Seeing those boys ride from 41st to 31st during rush hour just makes cringe.  I saw them on the westbank trail after the first time I called it in.   Might live on the westside and go to edison or ?.

Most likely they've been pushed into Riverside due to the trail work.

I called TPD and spoke to an officer about the situation, guess they are going to put a watch out for them or whatever they do.  I'm not sure these kids understand the eternal feud between motorists and cyclists.  These kids aren't cyclists.

Closure of trails doesn't mean they should use Riverside instead. They need to find an alternate route through the neighborhoods. Dumb kids. [:O]

There isnt any good alternative route through the neighborhood. You end up, hitting dead ends or being shunted back out onto Riverside or Peoria again.

Actually there is one of the marked Bike Routes that goes through Brookside.  I pick it up at 31st & Madison and head south it spits me out at the light at roughly I-44 and Riverside.   These kids could at least pick that up and ride to 41st then on to their destination.  That one mile of median appears to be more thrilling.

WoW- I would not be bit surprised if it is some sort of game like "Chicken", daring the traffic to hit them. How much longer is the RiverSide trail going to be down? Where do people go to run? The Creek TurnPike trail? They need to hurry up and get that new jogging trail built.[xx(]

Not true, the only place along Riverside there is a dead end in walking through the neighborhoods is between 34th & 35th street.  On Riverside you would be walking across a yard, or you could mosey down to Peoria where you have those neato collapsed pavers.  Other than that, the neighborhoods actually flow through.
