How do I protest this Sarah Palin who condones hunting wolves from above?   That is cruelty to the highest degree.  It's nothing but a canned hunt.    How you treat wildlife, IMHO is how you treat every living thing.  Am I wrong?  Go ahead shoot.

I can't vote for this.

You understand nothing about the realities of the culture and wildlife in Alaska.

I hear she eats babies too.

So that's why she's not pro-abortion.  She lets them fatten in the womb to enhance the flavor.

Actually, Conehead, I do understand as I taught in Alaska for two years...until my snowmobile quit running...LOL.  Palin is the one who WON'T understand the native way.  Hmmmm.

IMHO she's all around cruel and I don't even support PETA!

I love this thread.

Most of your aerial gunning in alaska is done by the government.  They do issue permits to hunters, but they are very hard to get and highly prized.

High concentrations of wolves have devastated the Moose, Caribou, and a number of other ENDANGERED species.  In some parts of Alaska, the wolves have completely eradicated multiple species of foragers.

Hunting from land in such rough terrain is completely ineffective.

So the question for you CKS is do you want the wolves, or the carabu, moose, deer, elk, otter, yellow billed loon, Canadian Linx, racoon, fisher, mink, sitka deer, mountain goat, dall sheep, pika, hare, rabbit, hoary marmot, woodchuck, artic squirrel, beaver, and cuddly little kitty cat?

Wolves do not regulate their own population very well because they've evolved to have a very wide range of food sources, just like dogs, they have evolved with humans and human intervention is a natural part of the system.

Leave a wolf population to flourish without a human predator, and they will kill everything before their population ever starts to decrease.

Come on.  Who did not learn this stuff in high-school?

I would like fairness but I know it's not possible.  So I will stand down from this pissing match and let you folks go on with it.

Carry on.

Hey CKS511, before you leave this 'p*ssing" match, I wanted to point out that you stated Palin doesn't understand the Alaskan people and their ways. I guess 80% of Alaskans are new to the territory, considering her popularity in the state. Right?

Yeah, you guys make sense but ignore some basic stuff. I'm not anti or pro hunting. Basically it never appealed to me as a sport because its too onesided. Its simply a game of sniper assasination. Hunting has become like golf. Not necessary to the existence of mankind and a terrible waste of fertilizer and land but furiously defended by zealots and those who profit from it. But like I say, not against it.

Interfering with nature is a double edged sword and no matter how you philosophise about the nobility of stepping in to save the yellow loon or whatever, it is hard to justify. Nature populated this country with Buffalo that were in our way, so we organized trainloads of hunting excursions where "hunters" took aim from the safety of their train cars, practically blasted them out of existence, left their rotting corpses and moved on. They could have used similar arguments as those above. As long as there were buffalo roaming the Indians had a food source so if you want to see us progress we need to eliminate them. Changed our nature forever.

In fact I can use the same arguments to use dynamite thrown into a body of water to stun or kill those pesky carp, gar and turtles in the Arkansas River that diminish the food sources of the more sporting striper bass. Its very effective and if used in the right season doesn't affect the other fish much. Its illegal for some reason.

Anyway, I think you folks are stretching to protect your precious VP's image. The spectacle of killing animals from a helicopter suits you politically to further identify/separate those who don't "get it" cause we didn't "learn it in high school". Assinine statement.

No one's challenging your right to hunt boys, calm down.
