Sorry.  I was there.... young republicans at play... let me jog your memory...

....did you read this thread?

Do "prom date" and "trophy running mate" ring any bells? How 'bout devs' extraordinarily out of place remarks?

I learned here any woman can succeed, assuming she gets picked by the right old man.

I'll have to assume you either approve or simply can't see it. But, I wouldn't be impressed in either case.

...I just knew we could count on you.

While we're at it, let's go back 24 years and pick up on race relations.

Sure, why not?

Jesse Helms in 1985:  "I've been portrayed as a caveman by some. That's not true. I'm a conservative progressive, and that means I think all men are equal, be they slants, beaners or ni****s."

How about this?

The Teflon Twins of 1988 (aka Jesse Jackson and Pat Robertson)
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,966441,00.html

Or we can enjoy the irony of Republicans derisively referring to Obama as "the Messiah"... hmmm, isn't this the same party that gave us this...?!?

"There is an enterprise the Lord set me on a year or so ago--running for president of the United States. Out of what seems to be defeat, we are laying the foundation for a great victory for this nation. It may not be in 1988...but I am not going to quit....I will run again in 1992. That is His plan for me and for this nation." --Pat Robertson, speaking at a fundamentalist church in Denver, 04/03/88.

Heh, heh...he said Conservative Progressive...

But Wrinkle said Liberals made up that word!?

They don't really go together well. Kind of like Military Intelligence or Conservative Values.

Oh, please.  The reference to "prom date" and "trophy running mate" is to characterize the demeaning attitude that McCain clearly has towards women.  This is someone who very likely could be the POTUS.  When someone questions McCain about her qualifications, he responds "she's exciting", "I'm proud of her."  Not that she has experience, qualifications, education, or anything that matters.  Could you imagine if that were a male candidate?  To say he's qualified because he "brings excitement"?  What kind of message does that send to young girls?  Don't worry about education, work experience, or any other serious stuff.  If you can look cute, and make some cute pig & lipstick references, you can rule the world.

If McCain really thinks she is qualified, why doesn't he make an argument as to why, instead this ridiculous "excitement" stuff?

Did anyone else catch the interview with McCain & Palin together?

McCain seems very uncomfortable--maybe he's figuring out what a huge mistake he made?

Biden thinks Obama is "clean" and "articulate".

He also has said Obama is inexperienced.

Here's another gem of a Biden quote:

"he criticized Obama and former Sen. John Edwards for "playing the populism card, the idea that rich are bad, poor are good, the nobility of America lies in the poor. I think that's a losing general election argument; I think it's a losing argument, period."

He argued, "The rich are as patriotic as the poor, if you ask of them.'"

"It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first" -Ronald Reagan

To most folks, McCain picking her as HIS OWN running mate should have answered most basic questions.

It is you all who are characterizing that selection as something else.

Can anyone provide a good reason why the O-man selected a hack for his VP choice? Talk about incongruencies.

I have less respect for Biden than you all have for Palin.

Didn't claim they made it up, only that Democrats have been misusing it.

Unlike Jesse Helms who had the correct usage?

BS. Progressive is the exact opposite of conservative. Progressive fits Liberalism like a glove. If anyone has misused the word it would be conservatives. Jesse made that point. They also abused the word compassionate.

I'm thinking you're a bit confused.
Regressive is the opposite of progressive.

Every party has hacks.
It's just as wrong to take aberrations and treat them as mainstream.

waterboy

Nah, I'm clear today. They didn't name soup "Regressive". No one wants that appelation.

Progressive is from progress which means movement in a positive or forward direction. Liberals embrace well reasoned change that moves a society forward. Actually based on opposition to monarchy's.

Conservative is to conserve which means stasis or failure to move in any direction. Maybe thats where "Congress" comes from. Change is anathema to a conservative unless its change that repeals progress.

Clear that up? Next class in 30min.

I'd disagree with your definition of conservative. It's also forward movement, just not with wreckless abandon. It actually fits your definition of progressive.

Progressive, as used by Democrats, seems to define more an altruistic approach to issues, without respect to cost.

And, for 'progressives' to treat Ms. Palin as they have shows no progress at all.
