Grand Public Entry

This rendering had me thinking of a possible contest to come up with a cheaper or more contrived Public Entrance than the one above.

By cheaper, I mean costs less.

I was going to suggest putting a desk/chair on the first floor of the parking garage for customers coming to pay bills. However, one must show a parking ticket in order to pay your bill.

My memory is terrible...

Has the City, or any other public/ quasi-public entity in Tulsa ever had a design competition?  That would be really interesting to see what locals could come up with...if not for the 'grand entry' for other projects.

-Could potentially save on costs
-Foster creative competition
-Bring exposure to otherwise unknown talents

How about a design competition for Tulsa Transit bus shelters...or bike racks downtown...or bathroom shelters on Riverside?

My only problem with the city thing above is that they are still calling it "One Technology Center"

It's not...

Rename it to "One City Center" or "City Center" or something like that. I'm paying for it through the city, the city should have their name on it. It should have "city of tulsa" in big letters across the top (which would also mean future skyline photos are automatically captioned)

I've since begun to wonder if they're going to let us use the revolving door at all, or are we delegated to the handicapped ramp and the makeshift window replacements. Seems the City seal is designed to mark the spot.

Guess a canopy was out of budget.

For a city so concerned with iconic presence, this says loads of their real affections for the public.

The dam ramp even extends into the main walk, I'm sure because they didn't want to move the doors down another pane because it wouldn't 'center'.

Rain and Sun don't fall perfectly vertical most times. Probably the same reason they spent a gazillion dollars for the extra custom one over the revolving door.

If the cover is higher than the top of the rendering, a canopy would help.

Did I mention this is a south facing wall?

Somehow when I have to be in the weather to get to/from the car and to/from the building, the 6ft in front of the door is really no concern. I tend not to strip my clothes off prior to entry.

I wonder why the Grand Entrance photo doesn't include cigarette butts on the ground.... It's gotten pretty gross since the City of Tulsa employees started taking their smoke breaks right there.
