In my Sports marketing and managing class our final project is to create a fiction NFL team and I picked Tulsa because its pretty much a huge football  state and lots of support for the sooners and the OKC is doing alright. Anyways if I think its a good idea I possibly might pursue doing this so I would like some Honest opinions;
First off would be a name
Vote for a Name
And with the name would oblivious come a Mascot or some sort, I mean I can type for days but you, The people of Tulsa,

Do you think/want your own NFL team and can the city afford/support it
or is your fan base already engraved in stone and you cannot switch to a new team?

Tulsa Tornado.

The mascot looks like Captain Cane, the Golden Hurricane mascot, but it has a cow or two flying around the costume.
Power is nothing till you use it.

I was thinking of some sort of Wind, Storm, Thunder and its a good idea and all but Im wondering what others think, Thank you for the input

OKC already has the Thunder.  Most NFL teams end with the letter S.  I think you should shy away from Wind, Rain, Tornado, or Thunder.  Something unique to the area or region.  I am not a very creative person per se...so what that "unique something" might be is beyond me.  But IMO I would stay away from names like the ones mentioned above.

mfox, if your goal is to be realistic - I would make it an OKLAHOMA team.  Base it just West of Tulsa if you want, but to succeed you would HAVE to draw in OKC and other Oklahoma towns.  Not sure if that is a requirement for a good grade, but if potential to succeed is a requirement having the state adopt the team is key.

It seems to me, that Stroud would be the ideal place to put the stadium.

The team would not be the Stroud <team> it should be the Oklahoma <team>

Its just geography.  ~2.5 million (over half) of Oklahoma's population within 1.5 hrs.

Neptune

Yes, Stroud.  Stroud works very well.

Adding rail service from Tulsa to OKC through Stroud would help as well.

Im sure that would be more up to the state but a petition wouldn't be a bad idea if this even works; And I understand if some of you reading this are thinking im some naive child running down a dream, kind of true I just think it would be great idea for that state, more jobs, more income and possible create feeder teams ect. but everything has its ups and downs

And Stroud was to be the site of an airport that would have served Oklahoma City and Tulsa.  Unfortunately, it never materialized as there was no way to make travel from the airport feasible.  Light rail or not, who wants to drive 45 minutes outside of the city to the airport?

I think Oklahoma can easily support the NFL.

I tend to think NFL might be the last sport we could support, just based on the sheer number of fans you have to pack into a stadium every week. Hockey has always been strong in Oklahoma and would be a good fit if they expand. The same with Arena Football as it would cater to the Football fans but requires a lot smaller facility and attendance.

I would like to see motorsports promoted and maybe a full-time indoor track for events like the Chili Bowl would be good.

I am one who believes it would be a state team or it would never work. Placement in Stroud makes sense, just like a large shopping center there made sense. Until the tornadoes, enhanced by the flat expanse of land there, wiped Tanger Mall off the map. Seriously, weather is a consideration.

The biggest hurdle is not economics, location or naming. Its the fact that the Dallas Cowboys and KC Chiefs owners would never allow the state of Oklahoma's market to be taken from them. Its their club, their rules.

That's rashly assuming the Chiefs will continue to have a fan base. Gawd, they're awful.

I'm not saying an NFL team in Oklahoma would be viable. But every time I think it's impossible, I think of li'l ol' Green Bay and its 90,000 people, and the stadium there has been sold out literally for decades. It's not just Milwaukee the Packers are drawing from; the whole dadgum state has a stake in that team, which is absolutely crucial.

So, while the NFL in the Sooner State is unlikely, I'm never saying never.

Oh, I agree that we're a feasible market, just that those owners are so greedy and myopic they think they're actually getting fan support from this area. Maybe Dallas gets some fan support from OKC and the southern part of the state, but KC ain't gittin' diddly. States like OK, NM, and Ark are donor states to the NFL because they like it that way. Maybe they instinctively know that we're never going to build them a stadium with public dollars! We barely worked a deal with the Drillers.

Obama likes sports, maybe he could put some pressure on them to expand. We could be the Oklahoma reds. Oh, wait a minute...[}:)]
