By the reporting of the TW (10/19,08) on a 5.5% increase on city salaries, those paid her high dollar queens court of assistants, without any extra artillery, the working poor seems to be getting a royal screwing, one would surmise.

Yes, raises that barely keep up with actual inflation are just so scandalous.

I would not surmise that.

Overall city salaries are up 5.5%. That includes modest pay raises for police and fire workers. Everything costs more. Everybody deserves a cost of living adjustment.

Social security benefits increase every year as well. They go up between 2% and 14% each year.
I don't receive these benefits because I am too young. You do. I pay for them. By your theory, I am getting a "royal screwing".

Did I complain when you got a small increase in your monthly government check? No. It didn't benefit me at all, but the modest cost of living increases to city workers helps keep my water clean, my streets safe and my trash collected.

Stop the hate to all city workers that you continually write about. Your obsession to bash them all is unwarranted.

It all on which side of the fence one is on where the turf on the other side is more greener and is guarded by those on it.

I started paying SS in 1938.  The teachers with teaching degrees were signing contracts for $75.00 a MONTH.   If I paid SS from my then 18th year to the 65th I was to receive $160.00 a month.  I have not received an increase on the SS check recently so I am unable to comment on any increase.  I feel shortchanged because the salaries paid by taxpayers to the teachers are not comparable to the promise of the SS act.

I have no animosity toward city employees but when I see a waste of manpower that would not be tolerated by our depleting private industries I feel duty bound to point it out in order for survival of the city.  It is unfortunate more persons are not aware of the wasted manpower.

It is all reduced to the one who is paying the taxes to determine if they are being dealt from the top of the deck.

You have lost me.  Are you talking about the 10.7 trillion in unsecured Federal Reserve Notes we have circulated, which are creating a financial crisis that can never be paid off?  Divide $10.7 trillion dollars by our 350 million population and then lets talk about keeping up with inflation.  Is inflation established or is it contributed to Greenspan's "I made a mistake."

I believe the administration of the city is making a mistake.  The direct and indirect precipitants of available tax funds is noted by the loud sucking noise that drained the taxpayer already.

I'm sure you understand that there is this thing called inflation, and it can and is measured. (although the official number is cooked so as to avoid agitation of the proletariat)

Arguing about the causes of inflation is just sidestepping the issue.

Regardless of the city's budgetary situation, forcing the employees to take a pay cut is not good policy. Do we really want them to have even less incentive to do their jobs efficiently?

I would support University of Tulsa head football coach Todd Graham for Mayor if TU goes undefeated this year.
