People that care about the look of their neighborhood park in the garage.  Lazy, trashy, unorganized people park in the driveway when they have the option of parking in a garage.

LOL, what if they park in the street.

How judgemental of you.

What if the car doesn't fit in the garage? Many older homes have garages that SUVs and trucks that don't fit. What if the family has two or more cars? The guy next door to me has a teenager and a mother-in-law who also drives.

I don't think you read my post.

He did specifically say "if you have the option".  But that still doesn't mean you aren't trashing up the neighborhood.  You might as well park on the lawn RM!

I guess it's about as lazy as leaving a car running while running into the store.

Man I am taking some serious heckling over the leave the car running in front of QT posts.  I am going to have to create a new forum name just to escape this torture...

I disagree with that statement.  For the most part - people who have older small garages don't park in them perhaps.  But my neighborhood there is only one garage that isn't used for parking.  Well, 2 if you count the old lady who doesn't have a car.  Maybe 3 if you count JNE, but I don't think he has a garage now that I think about it.

Bah!  Still.  Most people use them.

I figure my car is worth $20,000 . . . all the crap in my garage is worth $100.

I do have a garage, albeit a traditional midtown 1/2 car garage.  Even if my garage weren't filled with camping gear, tools, and lawn care items, it would be a feat to park even my tiny car in it.  You guys are actually making me feel much better about buying another midtown house without any garage at all (den conversion).  I keep saying to myself, "if your in midtown it is pretty much a luxury to have a garage."  We are planning on having a large storage shed erected in the back.  On that note, how bout some recommendation for local companies that build on-sites storage.  After much deliberation, we will probably go with a steel one.

I'm still undecided on a storage shed myself.  My new house is one of the ones built without a garage, only the attached carport.  Not having a garage in L'Dale isn't a real penalty since most have been converted and there were a percentage built witout in the first place.

I've talked to the vendor that operates out of the H-D on 11th & Elgin.  They make a wooden shed built on a steel sub-frame.  The price is reasonable.  If you are interested in a stamped metal shed, buy one at a big box store, buy some cinder blocks and hire some friends for the afternoon and pay them with a 12 pack of beer.  I've had all sorts of thoughts including building my own shed and replicating the roofline of a mid-century modern with it.
