Join Dr. Jeanne Schneider, Research Meteorologist, USDA ARS Grazinglands Research Laboratory, El Reno, Oklahoma to learn us how to get the most out of these two websites:

www.weather.gov <http://www.weather.gov>  is the new national portal of the National Weather Service that provides data and information about weather warnings and forecasts, graphical weather displays, national weather maps, multiple types of  NEXRAD radar displays, maps on river flooding and 48-hour flood forecasts, air quality maps, and more. Some of the online tools this features include: the National Digital Forecast Database, which updates weather forecasts every hour for 5-kilometer grids across the entire lower 48 states; "Quantitative Precipitation Forecasts" that forecast precipitation over a 6 hour period; a "Wind Speed and Direction" tool down to the level of a 5-kilometer grid; loops of satellite data, including a "water vapor" display that reveals shifts in the jet stream which determine much of the weather at the Earth's surface; and much more.

www.drought.gov <http://www.drought.gov>  is the new national portal created by 15 federal agencies that deal with drought forecasts and impacts. Some of the online tools this features include: the current "Drought Watch" map that is updated every Thursday and includes data for every state; multiple wildfire-related maps, including one that shows ongoing wildfires; the impacts of specific droughts on agriculture and water supply, including reports by citizens who live in the actual areas impacted by drought; many links to educational materials about drought for K-12 through adult; and much more.

Pretty nice but it doesn't quite match the real time weather system I saw at NAS Key West, FL.  Someone drew an outline of a television set on the window from the OPS office to the ramp and labeled it weathervision.
