There was a problem with our Cox bill

We have the basic cable, internet, and phone bundle.

Our rate suddenly jumped on our internet and cable so my wife called Cox, and got an explanation that we were automatically "bumped" up to the higher internet speed that we would really enjoy it.

Not needing to upload any 2,000 page healthcare proposals or hack into the pentagon, my wife told them "no thank you, please adjust our bill."  She was put on terminal hold to be transferred to another person.  While holding she was disconnected.

She got angry, and she is a redhead.

After getting quotes from DirectTV and Dish Network she called back and talked to a supervisor. She mentioned that she was prepared to switch to another provider, at this the supervisor went into defense mode, telling her how bad DirectTV was and that her internet would be slow and the customer service would be poor . . .LOL!

Her reply. . ."I did not call to hear you badmouth your competition, what I want to know is. . .what can YOU do to keep my business?"

LONG STORY SHORT

We got our rate lowered back to where is was for "The Bundle."

PLUS

We now have a year of free digital cable, HBO, Cinimax and all of the other bazillion channels plus digital receivers for our TVs.  We also have a year free of the highest internet speed. . .and we are really enjoying it.

Thanks Cox!  Thanks for trying to slam us by bumping up our rate for internet.  Had you never done this, we would still be paying for our basic plan, and would be happy with it.  Now we have the "Cadillac" plan for free and will be happy little Cox customers for at least another year.

Our rate goes up every year..... more crap is included in the bundles that I had added a la carte before, now is unremoveable.

Tried treatening to cancel, failed.

Yay $160 cox bill..

You too, huh?

I priced U-Verse, and it's no better once you pay the HD fees and rent their DVR. :(

PLUS, it's limited to certain areas of town.  Try and ask an AT&T employee when to expect it in your neighborhood and you'll get half-truths and doublespeak.

At least when Cox was doing the digital rebuild in the late 90's/early 00's they were pretty honest about when it should be ready.

BTW, I wonder what happened to their biggest shill, Tim H.

They changed some of their pricing policies so I called last week and dropped some services I don't use so my bill is $32 lower.

Same here, if we had an internet provider as good as Cox in the area I would drop them completely.
Thank you,

Gasper,

Seems like your little red head did some good negotiation!!!  ;D

I said FU to Cox Cable back in April of 09 after they raised our 1 HD-DVR package w/ no premium channels to $85. ::)

Now I have my HTPC sorted out and am doing just fine streaming (still paying the evil empire $30 a month for internet) or getting OTA for free.  Works out great for us.  ESPN360 and JustinTV FTW!

I've invested under $500 FWIW.  Oh and $5 on a DIY Antenna that rocks my socks :) http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=17609768&postcount=807

Direct will be installed by the end of the week.  I'm dumping the internet at home for now as I really don't use it all that much.  If I need to look something up, or continue an argument on here, I'll get it over the iPhone.  Cox really torqued me with the gratuitous rate hikes the last two years.  I'm not saying I'd never have them again, but they are going to sit in the penalty box for a couple of years.

I only use Cox for internet.  They don't seem to care much about keeping customers if you ask me.  I think they have a monopoly  I switched my home phone to MagicJack for $20 a year and have DirecTV.  Both are perfect.  I also can stream video to my Playstation 3 with my media server.  You almost don't need TV service anymore with all the free streaming content online.  It is pretty cool that you get ESPN360 for free with Cox.
