The marina is the nicest inland lake marina I've seen anywhere in the country.  I thought about putting my sailboat there, but the lake does not lend itself to larger sailboats with a deep draft.  Good for a Sunfish or Hobie, but that's it.  That and blackjack stumps sticking five ft. out of the water summer before last  pretty much killed that idea for me.

I know nothing about Howell, but do have a mole or two in the McGill's operation, I'll have to do some checking on what's up w/ the Crosstimbers location.  My initial 411 on that was McGill's was being "licensed".  Sort of what they've done at Cherokee Casino.  You don't run it the way Greg runs his, and you won't use his name for long.  He can be a hard-donkey, but he knows what it takes to make it in Tulsa's fickle hospitality market.

Yeah, it's a nice lake.  Great for fishing, but dangerous!  I nearly killed myself one year in a bass boat when I hit a stump about an inch under water and fliped.  There are a lot of near misses on that lake.  Good bass fishing though.

Not all of the channels are marked and there is a lot of underwater forest.  Should be nice in about 50 years.

Might be.  The reason not many boats venture north of Goose Island and especially Winganon Bridge on Oologah at high speed, is due to all the submerged stumps.  Talking to one old-timer who has been up there for 30+ years is that a lot of stumps "petrify" under the lake water, rather than rotting and falling over.

I don't know the petrification story to be true, but I can say I've only ventured north of Goose Island when the water is at least 10' over conservation pool levels, even then there's some grey old trees poking out of the water in the middle of the channel.

If I hit something at 5 kts. in a sailboat, it's not near as catastrophic as hitting it at 30-40 mph in a powered craft, but it can still cause serious damage.

You are correct.  Hardwood trees are actually preserved under water.

Gee.... Somebody ought to tell the folks at McGills that they don't exist anymore. I have had nice steak dinners out there every weekend for the last 4 weeks (october 2007). The place seems to be doing well.  Maybe you might want to verify your "facts" before you post.

A restraunt is there but it's no longer McGills.....Believe me they know....

I called and checked. It is now called Lakeside Grill. Apparently Ron Howell bought out the McGill crowd.

But I thought the whole reason this board existed was to further speculation and rumor and real fact had little to do with anything here.

I know someone who is looking at a house in the Cross Timbers development.  I've driven by it but have been in it, nor have I been to the restaurant (McGill's Lakeside).  It seemed like they were still building a lot last time I was there (last summer), anyone know if they are still going to build the golf course and other parts of this development?  It's a beautiful location with an awesome view only 30-45 mins. from most of Tulsa.

Has anyone been to the McGill's Lakeside Grill recently?  Is it only open on weekends?
