Lost my cane

I bought a new cane to replace the quarter-century old one I brought back from Ireland in 85.  It was time.  The old cane was developing some long cracks and I was starting to doubt it could support me.

I ordered a new sumac cane from a guy in Muncy PA, upriver from Harrisburg in the middle of the state.  It was suitably gnarly with a knob top that fit nicely in my hand.

So of course, I left it somewhere.

Trying to backtrack didn't turn up the cane.  It's gone. But the one bright spot is that I'm walking better - and that's precisely why I lost the cane.  I didn't need it at the moment.

Does anyone know of a cane maker in Oklahoma?  I've thought bois d'arc would make a very nice one.  And there's some maple out in the garage that I may try to fashion into a cane.

May you live in interesting times.

I haven't heard of any "cane makers" specifically.  But I imagine you could find a decent wood worker.  Maybe ask around at the Blue Dome Arts Festival coming up on the 20th.

I saw some nice canes out at Atwoods.  Have you checked there?

I saw some laminated wood canes at Atwoods.  They're very nice, but the price is a little high.  Still, I'd pay that much for a blackthorn if I could find one, so maybe it's not terribly out of line.

The folding aluminum cane will do for now, but I'm beginning to think about ordering another sumac one from that guy in Muncy.  But the festival next weekend is a real possibility too.

I remember something we called ironwood too.  It's very dense and hard, so much so that it dulled an axe quickly.  It would make a good, stout cane, but it would be heavy too.

One of my co-workers said I can have all the bowdark (bois d'arc) that I want from his place. All I have to do it cut is out of his fences.
