This is a fantastic new program in Philadelphia.  :-\

It's being tried at Camden High.

"We had talked about it for a long time," Camden Mayor Dana Redd said. "We wanted to come up with an innovative model."

Here's how it works. . .These schools have to have a 90% attendance rate or lose funding, so they take the troubled students (66 of them), the ones most likely to drop out and pay them $100 to stay in school until at least September 30th.

That's awesome!  Who thought of this?  Oh yeah the same folks that advocate advancement based on tenure rather than performance.

I would like to see some suggestions on how you think these kids will spend their $100, or perhaps your estimate on how many will be there on October 1st (of course they will have met the state attendance requirement by then)?

I think that would buy about 10 rocks.

Camden is across the Delaware River in New Jersey.

He didn't fact-check first?   :o

What idiot came up with this? I would love to get paid for showing up at school. This may help the kids attend school, but most of these kids will probably just buy drugs with it anyway, so, I guess it's just a win-win for everyone! Kids get drugs, schools get funding. What could be better??!

90% of what?  The kids eligible to enroll or actual enrollment?  It might be cheaper to pay the kids most likely to drop out to not enroll in the first place.  They might be able to do it for $50.  It's all about checking the box on the form.

Running for my flak jacket now.
