Tulsa's Public Safety Task Force

This afternoon the City Council and I appointed 6 Tulsans to the newly formed Public Safety Task Force. This task force is charged with giving actionable steps on how Tulsa can become one of the safest cities in the country. The deadline for these action steps is December 1, 2012.

It would be a great opportunity to do things that improve visibility on our streets, but historically the knee-jerk reaction has been to just add more lights without regard to how well they perform.

In a nutshell, they recommend throwing more money at the police department in the form of a new tax, improving 911 morale, and convincing the media to be less harsh in crime reporting.

When you look at the makeup of the task force, it's not surprising there were no new perspectives.
