Rainy season wrecks

When I saw this video, I was instantly reminded of an experiment where one had to gage the visibility of street markings in rainy conditions.  Street signs and lines are retro-reflective, meaning they reflect light in the same direction from which it came (such as from headlights), and that light reflecting off the surface of the rain (such as street or commercial lighting) often obscure the markings underneath by reducing contrast or introducing glare.

Not quite the same experiment, but ill bet today's rain didnt really improve the effectiveness of the freeway lighting on Highway 75 early this morning.

Inattentive driving in my amateur opinion.

The first car passed the car which was already wrecked much more slowly than the SUV that piled into it, as did the car which passed after the collision.  It didn't look to me like that driver even touched the brakes in the SUV.  Either that or he/she was going way too fast and couldn't slow down in time.

Did they ever say what time this happened and how they got it on video?  I saw this whilst eating breakfast this morning and wondered if it would be up on their web site.

Well at least the insurance and police will have no problem trying to figure out what happened. [;)]

6-ish, and I think it was a tower camera.

So I take it you never miss watching the two Talledega races on the Nextel Cup Schedule? [;)]

That was a hell of a hit, did you notice the rear tires coming off the ground a few feet on the SUV?

Actually, the person sitting on the highway with no lights on caused one wreck and sat in the middle of a dark highway and got clobbered by a third car.

I liked how the brake lights came on the disabled vehicle after he/she was hit by the SUV.....

The orange hue you are seeing in the video is  sodium streetlighting.

It was about 6:30. I was about 10 cars back from the accident.

Headlights came on at the same time.

Turns out the two women in the car that got hit are friends of my step-daughter, the driver moreso.  My step-daughter spent most of the day Saturday up at St. Francis waiting for the driver to get out of surgery, I believe to treat a compound fracture in her thigh.  She's apparently pregnant and limited in her choices for pain control.

My daughter's friend claims that a semi truck caused her to lose control and hit the guard rail and that she was already dialing 911 when the SUV hit her.

That is weird how the lights came on after she was hit.  With the G forces of the second impact, you'd think it would be impossible to grab a light switch at the moment they came on.

If you look closely, it's the brake lights that come on. You can see the third brake light in the rear window light up. It could be from the impact, the brake light switch was damaged and shorted out, or the driver instinctively hit the brake pedal after being hit to stop the motion.
