Great memory to pass down to the grand kids eh?

The river flooded when I was a kid in the fifties. Dad took us down to watch a bit and the rumor was some kids had gotten on a log and floated away. We also went to Bixby to see the flooded farm land. It was plenty scary for the young'uns. 86 was scary for the adults.

There were a couple (maybe 3?) floods during the 50's.  We used to go down and watch the water, too.

86, got flooded at a mini storage on 21st and Mingo, losing a bunch of stuff.  That will teach me not to have a mini-storage!

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

You sure that wasn't in 84?

Nope, not sure...was sometime about then.  Could have easily been 84.  (84...86... at this point they all kind of blend together into decade sized chunks.)

50's was right - was as kid and we watched several floods before going up to Keystone in 63, 64 to watch building the dam.  Heard at that time the adults were happy 'cause it would stop the flooding.  (Sort of....)

Yes. The Mingo flood was 1984. The Arkansas River flood was 1986.

That's it, then.  Seems like Joe Creek flooded too during that Ark River event.  ??

Mingo flood was mainly because some work was being done around 21st and there was a small dam that I think they were using for equipment transport across the creek.  Some people I knew lived right there and they said some entity came out and blew out part of it with dynamite that night when it was overflowing the banks so bad.  I wasn't there, but it made a great story at the time!

My soggy tennis shoes seem remember 8.5+ inches of rain in one night over that portion of town and being the culpret.

Polecat Creek in Jenks was flowing backwards during that river event.

IIRC, the water was about 4-6 inches from topping the levee on the east side of Jenks.

That was the case for most of Tulsa in the '84 flooding. I've commented before that during that one I lived at 71st and Yale and could not go more than a mile in any direction.
