"RALEIGH, N.C. - District Attorney Mike Nifong acknowledged Friday that he "maybe got carried away a little bit" in talking about the three Duke University lacrosse players who were once charged with raping a stripper, and he said he expected to be punished."

Carried away?  Yeah, no $h!t!

They should make that @sshole play in a game with Duke lacrosse players...Make him play keeper with no pads....I hope he does some major time.....

Conan71

Or maybe he ought to be the "guest of honor" at their next kegger. [B)]

He should be disbarred for sure, and maybe even serve some time.

A question to the attorneys on the site: I hear about private attorneys getting disbarred, but rarely do I hear of prosecutors or DA's getting similar punishment. Does it happen frequently and they just don't report it, or does it not happen that often?

Conan71

A certain President was disbarred.

This is at least as bad as William Jefferson of LA in criminal conduct.

Libby lies/misremembers a totally inconsequential event and gets 30 months.

If Nifong doesn't get at least this much, it will be deemed quite unfair.

Frankly, what he put these kids and their families through is grounds for major bucks, and a tar & feathering to boot.

Tearful Nifong To Resign

Too bad $harpton and Jack$on won't follow suit.

All to get re-elected...
Good thing we have much better oversight here[;)]

Someone who deliberately destroys people's lives for their own personal gain should loose more than just their job.

So he's been disbarred. Justice-not legality-has ultimately prevailed.

If I shot someone to take their money, and my only punishment was to loose my gun permit, would that be justice?

Next stop, criminal court, where hopefully, Nifong will be forced to answer for his conduct. And from what I've gotten from this, he has much to answer for.

For perjury and concealing evidence that he knew would destroy the lives of innocent people, Nifong was given a jail term by Superior Court Judge W. Osmond Smith III.

To show that he is cut from the same cloth by displaying similar contempt for the legal system, Smith made that jail term only one day.

"If what I impose with regard to Mr. Nifong would make things better or different for what's already happened, I don't know what it would be or how I could do it," Smith said.

Im sure Smith applies that same reasoning when he doles out one-day sentences to everyone else that comes through his court.[:(!]

Patric, can you imagine the outrage if the players had been convicted and were sentenced to one day each?

This prosecutor insensitively ruined the lives of those Duke students.  One day is a horrible slap in the face.  The students can go back and sue him, yet he can seek bankruptcy protection.

This deal smacks of cronyism.
