Simpson questioned in Vegas break-in



LAS VEGAS — O.J. Simpson is being investigated in an alleged Las Vegas hotel room break-in involving sports memorabilia, city police said Friday. But Simpson said he was involved in a "sting" operation to recover his personal property.

The former football star, acquitted in the 1994 murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman, was expected to be questioned by Las Vegas police Friday afternoon concerning the alleged break-in.

"We truly are in the infancy of this investigation," said Capt. James Dillon, head of the robbery-homicide bureau of the Las Vegas police. He said police were contacted shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, and the alleged victim claimed one of the people involved was Simpson.

But Simpson told the Associated Press he went to a room at the Palace Station hotel to retrieve memorabilia that belonged to him. He told the AP in an interview that auction house owner Tom Riccio called him several weeks ago to say some collectors "have a lot of your stuff and they don't want anyone to know they are selling it."
