What Was in That Building?

I am curious about a building downtown that is on the corner of 7th and Cincinnati, near the Powerhouse Gym.

It has a little blue on the bottom from windows, floor to ceiling windows facing both streets, and is currently empty.

Do you know what business used to be there?  And/or for what business the building was originally designed?

That was Ridgeways (blueprinting) but they moved elsewhere downtown and the building is being remodeled for a law firm.

good to hear it will be put to use....but sad to hear it is yet ANOTHER law firm.

Oh, gosh, yes--a professional office building is SO much worse than yet ANOTHER car wash, or yet ANOTHER bank drive-through.  Those damn white collar jobs downtown!

I think the comment may be because Law Firms have taken places like Duffy's on riverside and something more unique or retail would be nice.

If it was retail Inteller would be complaining that the jobs probably only pay minimum wage...

If it was a store giving out free dollars, Inteller would complain that inflation has made it worth less, that the actual paper bill wasn't made locally and that the line was long and full of idiots.

If it was a new lab researching a cure for cancer he'd complain not only that the jobs went to foreigners; but that, not having cancer, it doesn't really do anything for him.

Yes, it was Ridgeways.  They do graphic reproduction.  They moved over to a new space on Detroit just north of Tsunami.  I used to go in the 7th and Cincinnatti location a lot, and i always wondered what it was originally designed for.  If I remember correctly there was an inlaid "R" in the terrazzo out front, which made me think maybe it had been Ridgeways since it was built, but i really don't know.  The inside was a mess.  You could tell that it had once been kind of a neat 1950's space, but they had put in a dropped ceiling and built several partititions over the years, and it was really getting run down.  As for other uses, it kind of felt like a cafe or something might have once been there.  Or maybe a clothing store since they have all the big windows.  I guess the answer is lost in history.

I believe the building was originally built for the Ridgeways company.  I used to park in the lot on the north side of the building when I worked downtown in the mid 1970's, and it was Ridgeways back then.
