I think at the south Tulsa stores, the teens n' tweens only try to lift the high ticket items.  Not a pack of Wrigley, but Altiods, if you will.[:O]

I really wish they would build one, or a Whole Foods, further South or Southeast.

a little birdie told me one is coming to the south.

That would be nice...any idea where?

We primarily shop at Reasors (15th & Lewis) since it's the closest grocery store near our part of town.  I have no complaints about price nor quality.  I've even found that their scripts tend to be cheaper than wal-mart (maybe I've just been lucky).
Some other Reasors farther east seem a little sketchy though.
For several years I lived in a Homeland only town so my expectations are admittedly a little low.

Cirage, that's the closest grocery to my house (15th & Lewis), but it's usually my last resort since it became Reasor's.  I think Reasor's is stupid expensive on their Angus beef.  That's the worst-hyped excuse to over-price beef I've ever seen.

Truth be known, I get better t-bones and rib-eyes from Warehouse Market on the west side.

Reasor's to me seemed like they got real expensive for awhile- especially the one next to Target at 16th & Yale.  I'm sure it's phychological on my part and you could buy the same list at every grocer around town and wind up with about a $10 diff from highest to lowest.

I'd much rather shop at Reasors then have to walk into a wal-mart.  Their prices are cheaper if they aren't out of what you are looking for and if you need to read that magazine article.....completely, while waiting in the checkout line. Additionally, the meat selection at Reasors (71st and Lynn Lane in BA) is great, and well stocked.  The sushi, found in the deli section, is AWESOME!

wal-mart aint the end all for groceries that so many folks believe it to be. their prices are rarely the lowest, and they offer fewer choices than either food pyramid or reasors. w.m. does not stock, for example, either the always save or best choice brand products, both of which are distributed from the same parent company, and both of which are well represented by the other two stores. w.m. sells their own private label of some products, and then a few national brands. their check-out lines are almost always long, their stores dimly lit, and when trouble ensues, as it often does, the remedy often takes a long while to occur. w.m. aint the same as it was when sam was in charge, for darn sure!

Don't buy meat at WalMart...it's just bad news.
That said, we just threw away 3 lbs. of hamburger that we bought from Reasor's last weekend at 71st & Sheridan.

A year ago, maybe even as little as 6 months ago I would say the lest expensive place to shop for non fresh items was walmart by far, but as they phase out there off brand products they are also inching there prices up slightly on all goods (more so then other stores.)

I would say the best bet is just smart sales shopping from the circulars and smart coupon usage. Warehouse Market and Reasors are the best places for meats (at a reasonable price) with Food Pyramided a very close third.

Location does matter though for both Reasors and Warehouse Market for your meat shopping, I find the WM on 49st West, the one in sand springs, and the newer one on Garnete have the best selection and the best cuts. Reasors I would say the one on 71st and Sheridan or the one on 15th.

No matter what no store is really better then the other its all about smart shopping, oh and using bulk shopping in areas it matters doesn't hurt, miss my sams card.
Thank you,
Robert Town

I don't like the meat at Target either.  When you open the package most times it has an off smell.

My dear husband forgot to mention that we also shop Homeland since I have learned the ins and outs of couponing. I have recently been saving between 50-75% on staple groceries by shopping sales with coupons and stocking up at Homeland. I prefer to use my coupons there because they double coupons up to $1 value everyday and occasionally have triple coupon days at select locations. The most recent triple day at 31st & Harvard resulted in $200 worth of groceries for $50. That means a lot to a family of four on a budget!

We do purchase meat from Fadler's or Target mostly.  We do not shop Walmart at all. Food Pyramid and Reasor's are our closest stores though, so we do immediate-need shopping there. Once my meal planning gets better, hopefully we will be able to reduce/eliminate immediate-need shopping.

I will say that Tulsa is seriously lacking in the grocery store department. I shopped at a Kroger Signature store in DFW late last year and it was heavenly. The prices were comparable to current prices here in Tulsa and the store was beautifully laid out with a grand selection of items.

I grew up in Shreveport, LA where we had Brookshire's, Kroger (standard, not signature), Albertson's and Walmart. They now have a SuperTarget as well, and the Albertson's is gone (like most are).

On my wishlist also is CVS. Does anyone know if they plan to move in to Tulsa and compete? I love their ExtraCare Bucks program.

Not to slam Tulsa stores, but the food stores in Tulsa are very small comapired to stores elsewhere. here in Ohio we have Meijers a huge food store with low prices and we have everything... "Aldi" to "food For less" for cut rate prices and large food stores like Kroger & Giant Eagle that are like Resoners but much larger.

I agree. Tulsa's "Warehouse Mart" and "Homeland" seem like old stores from the 1960's with no updates. Old freezers and store coolers and racks. The only "modern like" store I know of in Tulsa aside from Wal-mart Foods is Reasors and they are small and don't offer much. Oklahoma also taxes food, that takes some getting use-to.

How much of that space is taken up by non-food items, like tv's, dvd's, furniture, sporting goods, etc.  The Reasor's at 15th and Lewis got rid of all that junk and added 3 more isles of real groceries when they bought it from Albertsons.  I do not mind that the stores might not be as large, I am glad that they focus on groceries.

And we do have Aldi's, I do not shop there, it is not close enough to me to consider.  They seem to concentrate more on the suburbs instead of trying to make a presence in the city center.  They are kind of small and sort of funky to me.  Clean, but they have too much Walmart style non-groceries.  Not even WM Neighborhood Markets have that stuff.  WM NM's do have a very large section of cosmetics and stuff like that.  But I think Reasor's has a better overall selection and they are much more responsive to bring in items they do not currently carry.

Kroger is just like Reasors and Albersons, or at least all the ones I have been to have been. I hated the ones in TX, but thats just me.

Homeland is ok, but after there money problems in the late 90's early 00's they just stopped really mattering. Though for coupons they are one of the better places to use them as link someone already mentioned.

I hope Food Pyramid will special order stuff still like Albersons used to. If not at least Reasors is still pretty good at doing that food people.

Walmart's produce is kind of rancid if you ask me. Of course, I've only gone in there a couple of times. Target has decent quality produce, but I get most of my stuff at Kroger. I don't know if Kroger operates up in Oklahoma, but their Signature store that is near us here in the DFW megopolis has very reasonable prices, good produce, good qualities and selections of meat, and excellent service. I never wait more than a minute or two.

We shop at Reasor's more than anywhere else mostly because of the convenience and the consistent quality. Their meat is always good and though some of their prices might be a little higher it all evens out when you consider what it would cost to drive somewhere else.

We also shop at Wild Oats when we can, but it is a bit too far out of the way for us most of the time. I really wish they would build one, or a Whole Foods, further South or Southeast.

I haven't been impressed with Food Pyramid at all. Wal-Mart? Forget it.... I may go in there for an item or two, but Wal-Mart is not what I think of when I think of a grocery store.
