They weren't protesting the art... [;)]

Love the art!  We need more murals downtown! (I know this guy who does good work...when he's not busy posting on the TN forum...)

I wonder if it would be possible to stucco over the Tulsa World printing press building, and then cover it with a mural of...historic Tulsa buildings that have been torn down to make way for the TW.

Haha yea they were protesting some crowne plaza nonsense. I asked one of them one time but I honestly forgot, something about unfair wages.

Anyhow - listening to the throbbing bass is really making me want to either go home, or go outside and enjoy the music and I cannot do either at this time. Bummer.

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering what the schedule was. BTW, my nephew plays sax in Harmonious Monk. It's always fun to see them play, but they usually play at the clubs starting at 10:00 pm, and I'm too old to do the late-night thing anymore.

He's good!  Take a nap!
Support your local musicians!
Danger, take it from the devil and Frank Rich and party likes it's 2008. Whole lot of shakin' going on ....

READ.....Danger mentioned his nephew....I replied "he's good"
Danger said he can't stay up late....I said, "take a nap".

Slow posters....

They are the ****!  I believe it's Bonnie Payne that is Karen Keith's niece.

Great musicians, not just entertainers.

I was there during lunch hour today. The crowds were pretty big for a while, but have no slowed.

I sat on a bench next to Arby's and people watched, mostly. The booth next to me had oil paintings of different types of dogs sitting in oversized martini glasses. The dogs were well painted, but I guess I don't get the art. It probably has some spiritual meaning and I am just too shallow.

The Artist's mural looks great! You can see it from anywhere on Main looking north.

While I was there, the wind picked up and blew over a tent belonging to some pottery artist. He had walked away to get a corndog and returned to see he had lost probably hundreds of dollars worth of vases and bowls. The tent he had was the stupidest design. He had enough weight on the legs, but had added a overhang in front without weighting it. It acted just like a parasail in the wind.

Sgizzle and I were close by and ran over and held the tent up while he returned and Mayfest volunteers helped sweep up the pieces. Between sgrizzle and me, we had enough ballast to keep the tent from blowing over again.

It is a good show this year with lots of new art booths.

Is your work going to be one of the exhibits Artist? I appreciate and am a fan your artistic ability.

My gawd, the wind was awful. I probably looked like a carnival act up there on 2 sets of scaffolding then on top of a step ladder, then reaching over my head trying to hold a large 4 foot sheet of paper against the wall to get my lettering to scale, with a pencil in one hand and the wind blowing up a storm lol...  Thanks for the duck-tape, came in handy keeping the paper to the wall. I can simply free hand flowers and such but lettering I need a template, zeesh I hate lettering lol.

So I'm reading this article pleased that it's a positive story.  It seems to me that Glenda has lived in Tulsa for 32 years and she's just now surprised about the appearance of the BOK center.  This may be an example of ignorance costing the city the ability to progress.

I might've read it wrong though.

My apology for the threadjack.

Downtown looking up, many discover

Glenda Clark rarely visits downtown.

She's been living in Tulsa for 32 years, but never really has a reason to come downtown anymore.

"A lot of things have gone out like the ice rink and the shopping centers," she said.

However, as many are discovering as they return to downtown Tulsa for the annual Mayfest arts festival, a little bit of artistic Renaissance is happening around the rest of downtown also, with the development of the BOK Center and roadways.

"It's very much improved with easier access," said Clark, one of thousands of people who converged on downtown Thursday for the annual arts and music festival. "I was so surprised (with the BOK Center). It's a very unusual architectural design."

Glenda is also surprised by movies with sound.

I have to agree. Best Mayfest in many years. We went down on Friday night, wandered over to the Dome area then back to watch some of the bands and take in some more art. Someday I'll afford to buy as well!

Crowds were laid back, lots of visible security but no shenanigans. Downtown is looking pretty good. It is going to be cool. I am enthused to see stuff improving, notably all the street work and public areas. Love the McBirney building though I wish it was being converted to apartments rather than bank offices.

Ghost? They have too much fun. Left their CD's in the car! Wife said they looked like a garage band Devo in puberty.

I've never missed a MayFest, but after paying $9 for a Gyro and burning a $20 in less than 5 minutes for popcorn, a drink, and dippin dots, it just felt more like the fair than an arts festival!

The Blue Dome area is in my opinion the best part!  Free beer, wine samples,  good food and reasonable prices. I think we will just go to that from now on.

I just felt like we got fleeced by carneys!

The weather was wonderful though!

Never made it up to Mayfest Friday night.  Usually, we start in the Blue Dome around 6 to 6:30.  By the time we wander around, see friends, listen to music, stop at every booth, allow Butch to be a human magnet, they are ready to close up shop.  We wound up back at Arnie's for God only knows how long... good thing I wasn't driving. [:o)]

I'm glad others enjoyed Mayfest, it's not that I don't like it, we just seem to have as much or more fun with less of a crowd over at BD.

Mayfest had free wine samples too. I'm pretty sure the gyro guy was overcharging.

I spent $40 in tickets.. across 4 days.

Sounds like Tulsa's MayFest is quite a event. I wish I could get to see it. I have been to the MayFest event in Fort Worth, Texas and that's  not bad, it  starts off on the first week of May... A local TV station & a radio station always do a tug of war across the Trinity River, the loosing team falls into the icy waters of the Trinity River. They have all sorts of contests and events all week long the kids love it, It's held at Trinity Park right near the Trinity Jogging Trail, off of University Drive. It sounds like Tulsa's MayFest is just as wild.[:(]
