Looks like he is staying at KTUL.  I've met him and he's a good guy.  I've had a couple of friends with DUIs and they are also good people.  Good people make mistakes.

Here's what aired on KTUL.

And yet again, no apology, no admission of doing something dangerous and selfish. This is horrible public relations. When you make a mistake, you apologize - plain and simple - before you can expect forgiveness. This is very disappointing from KTUL. An I-know-how-serious-this-is statement is a very different thing from an apology and admission of responsibility. I'm disgusted.

I would guess it's high-profile enough his attorney and attorney's for Channel 8 have advised him to say no more at this point.  I'd be willing to bet the only statement he's made so far was written in the presence of his attorney.

Look, I take DUI seriously, I lost a close family member due to someone else's lack of responsibility.  But if it's bothering you that bad he's never issued an "apology", quit watching Channel 8.

He's turning it into a story. Just what MH2010 suggested. Makes you think he might have been reading this thread, huh?

I think it would be neat if he would allow a camera crew to go with him during his whole DUI process (court, talking to his insurance to see how much it will go up or if they cancel his coverage, finding rides to work or paying a whole lot of money to get a breath device put on his vehicle, DUI school ect.)

I think this is a really smart and brave move by Giordano.  Most of us will never have to endure this level of public scrutiny and involvement in our private and professional lives.  I hope this will allow him to move on with life.

I wonder how many posters on this forum have been arrested for a DUI or DWI?  Did you have to deal with this level of publicity and ridicule?  Was there a forum thread written about you by total strangers who delighted in humiliating you?  Did it nearly end your career?

Ever had a few drinks and then driven home?  Most people I know have (at one point or another) driven when they shouldn't.  Giordano had a BAC of .08.  I bet most people on this forum have experienced this level of intoxication themselves...and then driven home, or ridden with someone who was equally affected.  If you made it home safely, then you're lucky.

Remember Eddie Sutton?  He was driving with .22 BAC.  Almost 3 times more than JG.

.08?

I'm not making light of this but I figure I hit .08 after 2 good beers.  How the heck did he do all the things he did at a .08?

I think I lived my early twenties on a .08 or above.

I can vouch for Townsends 20's...although, I think it's higher now!

We all remember Eddie Sutton.  Did Sutton get charged with hit and run? Did he try to run off when a citizen was chasing him? did he try to buy off the cops?  Did he **** himself? Did JG apologize?  Atleast Sutton attempted to apologize in a statement.

I completely agree. I am sure he will pay all the fines, penalties, etc, that anyone else would have to.

He drove off after he hit Teresa Barnard and only stopped when the tree he subsequently hit wouldnt move.

He owned the cops.  They were also sued for letting him drive away after their traffic stop.

Did JG apologize?

There's a video of him doing that.
Difference is, Sutton sent someone to the hospital.

JG showed appreciation for those supporting him.  There's a difference between that and an apology, which he has NOT offered.  Yet.

Some people can't handle alcohol.

peggysbooks

I found a website that is very interesting and tried to post its link here without success. It is the official Police Report - after reading it, I am a bit surprised that Giordano is still on air with Channel 8. I found the report on thelostogle website (search for Jerry Giordano - under his mugshot, click on police report-SS, address, phone, etc has been blacked out, thank goodness). The AP picked up the story 7/6/2008: Tulsa television news anchor arrested - By The Associated Press. "Tulsa County prosecutor Steve Kunzweiler says Jerry Giordano faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage. Giordano has worked since 1996 for television station KTUL." AP (7/10/08) "He (Jerry) issued a statement on the station's Web site saying he promises 'to press on no matter what' but that he also understands 'the seriousness and the gravity of the situation.'"

I've read that he is under the spotlight more because he is a 'co-called' celebrity. Guess what! That goes with the territory and I am sure that the media attention is no surprise and should have been a deterrent for him. AND working as a news anchor/reporter, do you really think he would let one of us off the hook if he could get a story? KTUL has certainly fired other employees for similar offenses. Wonder what the deal is - as long as we don't know - theories will abound and I know that I have one!
