Hey Gang, As some of you know I'm a running nut, and thought you'd like to know that I'm planning to enter a 5K run Sunday morn. (I plan to register race day) in Hilliard, Ohio.. I thought about entering the 10 mile race but I have not trained enough and my race time won't be worth a hoot, I'd just be running the 10 miles at my regular jogging pace. This 5K (3.1 Miles) is very short but I'll be able to put on some speed and do my best. The first 3 finishers in each age group win a prize. The race course is  going to be run on the Heritage Jogging trail in Hilliard, Ohio and I run there alot so I know the course very good. The race results will be posted on line after the race at www.ultrafit-usa.com as will be info about this race and other races coming up..[:)]

Hey gang~ I took 2nd place in the Pancake run (5K) for my age group (50-54) I was running better and faster than I did in my training. It shows you what a little competition can do. My time was around 25:30 The exact time will be posted on the web site latter on. I even surprised myself. I left alot of runners in the dust. My runner number was 284 they took my picture as I crossed the finish line so I don't know if that will posted or not. I thought about going in for the 10 mile run but I didn't train much for running a hard 10 miles and I would not of won anything. I'm happy with my race results but I feel I could of pushed a bit more and done better. I keep re-playing the race in my brain, anyhow, If you care to see the results go to www.ultrafit-usa.com [:)]

Super job, Sauerkraut!  2nd in your age group is fantastic! And I know people well UNDER your age group who would kill for anything under 26 min (and I'd be one of 'em!)  Congrats!

Isn't it funny how training runs and competitive runs are completely different beasts?  I'm MUCH faster when I'm trying to outrun somebody.

I don't run unless I am being chased.

Great run and congrats on the 2nd place age group.

How were your splits?

Biggest danger in racing is going out too fast. It's so easy to do. Adrenaline does wonders.

Sauerkraut- Is the Heritage Trail the trail that goes through Old Hilliard? I remember riding my bike on the trail that goes through the old part of Hilliard when I lived there. It was a nice trail and it was expanding to Plain City and maybe further west when I lived there.

My co-worker is an avid runner. He talks about getting a "runner's high".

I get the same from a flight of stairs.

Yes it is. They expanded it - The trail now goes all the way to Plain City. I also run alot on the Olentangy trail, but parking can be a bear there. The Olentangy jogging trail is always busy. The Heritage trail has better parking. As you get past the 3 mile marker on the Heritage trail  you get out into farm land and see alot of wildlife there, lots of animals  and wildflowers. it's a nice place to run plus the trail is very wide. The bike riders like it too but they really go fast on that trail. Rollerbladers same way.

yeah we runners are a speical. My girlfriend is not into running and hates me always talking about it and the race. My ex-wife was the same way. I use to take my running gear to work and go running after after work and my wife did not like that. That's when I lived in Texas and I ran on the trinity trail in Fort Worth back in the 1980's. I'd like a girlfriend who is into running so we can go running together.

Hey SafetyGuy- Why did you leave Ohio? Job Change/transfer? When I'm in Oklahoma I find it strange paying sales tax when I buy food items that must take some time to get use-to. BTW, they also expanded the Olentangy Bike-Jog trail they extended the north end of the trail about 2 miles a few years ago. The mayor of Columbus wants to add another 60 miles of jogging trails to the city.[:)]

I left almost 5 years ago because of a fiancee now wife. I lived in western Ohio most of my life (in a little town west of Dayton)

That area of the country has really taken off with putting running/biking trails. I am familiar with the Cardinal Greenway in Indiana and the Monon Trail around Indianapolis.

Yes, but don't forget all the other runners are also running on adrenaline. The 5K race is so short I found you pretty much have to run the whole thing hot & at full throttle, no time to lighten up on the throttle. The race is over too quickly for that. If you slow down a bit you won't win diddley-doo.

Well it's very easy to smoke that first kilometer and end up running positive splits. 5Ks are brutal...fun...but brutal.

Win? No way. I've placed in the Clydesdale group (200-214 lbs) in a few races...but my age group 40-44...forget about it. Pretty competitive and fast runners in Tulsa. Great racing town.

I have heard of the Cardinal Greenway but never ran it, I have ran the Monon Trail in Indianapolis, I parked at the Marsh Parking lot at 86th street. That's a real busy trail but the drawback is all the street crossings, I like trails that have no street crossings. The Indianapolis trails have a web site indygreenways.com or something like that, they are building more trails in Indiana... Omaha, NE is a Runners Heaven they have tons & tons of jogging trails set up like a interstate highway system for joggers and bike riders, you can run your legs off in Omaha and not run the same trail twice. The Omaha trails have NO street crossings and they have mile markers every 1/4 mile with the name of the trail on each marker. I like the Trinity Trail in Fort Worth, Texas I did alot of running there back in the 1980's. I guess Denver has alot of trails to, but I never was there.[:)]
