BOK arena looks like a roll of cheap duct tape.

I see the arena regularly, and have always thought the metallic exterior looked shabby and unfinished. I kept thinking something would be peeled off, and presto!

Now they have the signs up, etc, it looks like this is it. The glass does look nice, but the rest looks like a weathered old airstream trailer. As I drove by on the inner-dispersal loop today, it hit me. Duct tape. The thing looks like it is covered with duct tape.

I doubt it really matters, but I am kinda shocked at how bad the thing looks, and its brand new. Anyone else feel the same?

Wow, welcome to last month...or, welcome to Sand Springs, take your pick.

I like it, and the majority around here, I think, do too.

inteller

not duct tape.  a chromed pile of dog ****.

Look out, here comes the wambulance!

Kidding, but seriously: it's a pretty impressive design, and it looks SO much better than plenty of other arenas I've seen. Ever see the Ford Center in OKC? Now that's a turd of an exterior if I've ever seen one. Metallic sure beats crappy yellowish brick. I, for one, love the arena; I just think your opinions are very off-base from what most people hold.

You can't please everyone (especially inteller) and I think stainless was a ballsy choice. If they had built another brick or concrete arena I woulda hurled. You might as well have written "Maytag" and an arrow indicating "this side up" because OKC is getting ready to house an NBA team in a giant refrigerator box.

cs6000, did you maye not look at the concept pictures posted two years ago? It looks identical.

From what I've seen, the BOK Center looks great.  Tulsa should be very proud of it.

The fact that people feel the need to continue to run down the Ford Center gets a little old though.  The Ford Center may not have as many bells and whistles as the BOK center right now, but the Ford Center and OKC have one thing that the BOK and Tulsa aren't even close to having:  A city full of citizens that are willing to take a chance and pay to improve their city.  I'd rather have a pedestrian looking arena in a forward looking city any day of the week.

Well, the refrigerator box is about to get a huge makeover and expansion.

Question is: would that have happened without the relocation of the Sonics?  Probably not.

From what I read of the plans most of the improvements are back-of-house with the only noted visible change being the new main entry area.

1) Inteller, thank you yet again for your meaningful and intelligent commentary.  You are very helpful in public discussions.  Also, in light of the fact that you hate everything your particular hates are of great importance.

2)

#1 is a rendering, #2 is a photo of it as it stands.  I'd say they are pretty close.

3) I'm pleased that we chose a design instead of just sticking an arena into a box.  I understand the utilitarian aspect of arenas such as the FORD Center (which does it's job very well), but am pleased we went a different way.  What design alternative would you have proposed?

Concrete tilt-up or brick are the obvious choices, I doubt that would impress many people.

I drove downtown this weekend to attend an event at the Mayo hotel..and I must say that I was impressed by the size and the look of the arena...

OK, so that makes two people in a minority that you can see only under a microscope.

Next.

That car must've been lost. The BOK Center is several miles from wal-mart.
