Oklahoma Carry Concealed Permit

Since I am becoming an Oklahoma resident, I am thinking about getting a CCW.

Seems like a lot of people have them in Oklahoma.

My boss said to go to Tulsa Firearms to take the course.  He is going to loan me a pistol to take the course with.

My questions are these:

Do lots of people here regularly carry guns?

What would you carry? (My boss said to take the course with a semi auto pistol, but a revolver is a better pistol for someone who doesn't have a lot of experience with firearms).

Any advice would be appreciated.

You need to get your permit for the semi-automatic, because you will automatically be able to carry any of 3 categories - semi-automatic, revolver or derringer.

That's what my boss told me. He has a lot of guns, and buys a lot from on line auctions.

I'd like to have a Walther PPK or HK P7.

I have a conceal carry license and if you can take with semi or derringer, there is another school that I recommend Tulsa defensive shooting acedemy www.tdsatulsa.com I think you will enjoy this class

I'm actually preparing to purchase my first handgun (I've used shotguns quite frequently in the past) and will be getting my C&C.  My brother already has one.  I'm looking at buying a Springfield subcompact 40 semi

Be prepared for a wait of up to 2 months to receive your license once you've completed and passed the course.

A buddy of mine picked up a S'pfld sub-compact 45, said it was awesome.  He's used to 1911's and all their variants.

For very close work and easy/comfortable to conceal, I recommend a Beretta .32 Tomcat.  No, not as big a round as a 38 snub nose, but with hydra-shocks it'll stop people.

The Tomcat has a tip up barrell?  One the legal assistants where I work has one that is a 22. Pretty neat.

Rex, I'd suggest you not go to Tulsa Firearms for your course, seriously. And definitely don't buy your gun from them. =]

Go to TDSA as was mentioned a few posts back. Marshall and his crew of instructors are some of the best around here and you will not be disappointed. Their CCW class is also best for someone new to guns as he spends some time going over basics that are not included in your average CCW class curriculum.

As far as purchasing your first gun I'd suggest Oklahoma Police Supply (Admiral between Sheridan and Yale - it's not just for the police), SportsWorld (41st and Sheridan) or even a gunshow. I wouldn't visit Dong's either.

Take the test with a semi auto pistol then you can carry a revolver or the semi-auto...If you take it with a revolver thats what you will be limited too....

Do  NOT take your course at Tulsa Firearms. Stay away from there. Try TDSA, Tulsa Gun Club, Medlock's in Collinsville, or Concealed Carry in BA. Anywhere but TFA.
Also check out Oklahoma Shooters Association at OKShooters for good info.

So, you should go to fancy stores to buy guns? I thought you can buy them just fine from parking lots.

If you go to the parts of town where you can buy guns in the parking lot, you should already be packing and have your CCL. [;)]

Yes it does.  The .22 and .32 are double-action, the .25 is single action.  It's a nice extra safety feature, especially if you have not fired all rounds when you are at the range.  Accuracy suffers due to the short barrel, but as I said, they are designed for "close work".

What's the deal with Tulsa Firearms?  I've been shooting there before, but no other contacts. Do they have a bad rap?

I can attest that I have heard good things about  TDSA.

Also, REX - try to take the course with the firearm you intent to carry.  It is strongly preferred.
