Turns Out Edwards Really Is A dude

It does lower my opinion of Edwards. I was one of the founders of the Tulsa Chapter of the Edwards One Corps.

It disappoints me that he couldn't keep his pants up.

I felt the same way about former President Bill Clinton. If he only could have resisted the temptation for the years he was President, he could have gone down as one of the best ever.

We all have desires and clearly these two have much more opportunity to act on those desires than most of us. But fidelity should be expected of all married men and women. Anything else is disappointing.
Power is nothing till you use it.

we vs us

I think it's really interesting that he went ahead with his primary run, even though he'd presumably JUST told his wife and family about the affair.  He'd've had to have launched his candidacy with Elizabeth's full support -- which it's obvious he had -- even though he'd just told her about the affair.  I'm not sure if that's a testament to the fundamental strength of their marriage or to the degree of their mutual ambition.

Also, why would you jump into the race knowing that this secret was so fresh and new?  He had to know the level of media scrutiny he was in for.  How do you NOT know someone's gonna sniff this one out?

The story is kind of baffling to me on a lot of levels. And the damnable thing about this is, I still like what he was saying during the primaries.  He was making lots of important points about poverty in America, but this kinda blows the tires off of a lot of his once-and-future effectiveness as a progressive caped crusader.

I don't care about his sex life, but I care that what that action portrays.  Unless it's an "open marriage" the guy is willing to lie to, cheat on, humiliate, degrade, and apparently thinks little of the one person he has promised to be faithful to.  Should I expect any better?

You can't resist this temptation what other temptations will you succumb to, ones costing my nation?

You lied to your wife, but you are and will be honest with me?

If you're not loyal to your wife why would I assume you are loyal to anything at all?

He cheats on his dying wife, lies about it, makes amazingly hypocritical statements telling US to be moral people, and apparently for PAID his sex with political money...  this says nothing about his character?  None of that bothers you about an elected official?

If he was single and said "yeah, I have sex with all kinds of women."  Fine, good for you buddy.  But in this instance it's a simple matter of integrity.  And that's important to me.   If you lack it, I will not vote for you  (I realize that limits the political pool).

Ouch!  I HATE being reminded us Democrats have gay politicians!  It just stings!

Er, wait.  I forgot.  Democrats pretty much don't care.

I do not think Hoss and Swake's point was about "gay" politicians so much as it was about repubs being involved in homosexual scandals. That's why I named Frank and McGreevy--two dems involved in homosexual-related scandals.

Personally, I could care less about a person's sexual preference. I DO care, though, when people like Larry Craig and now former "father of the year" Edwards preach morality at us while behaving to the contrary.

Someone get Hoss a pacifier.

Interesting metaphor, if not anatomically correct.

All worker honeybees (that produce honey and have stingers) are female.

The male honeybees (drones) do not have stingers and don't produce honey.

I know I'm being a killjoy, but the beekeeper in me couldn't resist ...

The female bees do all the work?

What do the male bees do? Watch sports, play poker, grill the food?

The only thing that really bothers me about it is the money that changed hands - very troubling.  Whats between 2 married people should stay between them, and morality is subjective when it comes to sexual behavior. He will have to be judged by himself and his wife regarding the expectations of their marriage. I don't know if I can blame anybody for lies about sex in the public forum (its really nobody else's business).
Vote for the two party system!

The only purpose the male bees (drones) have is to mate with the young queen bee when she's ready. After the one breeding, the queen lays eggs for the rest of her life.

Sounds like the drones have a cushy job ... until the rest of the bees kick the drones from the hive upon the onset of winter, where they perish. No sense in feeding a few hundred slacker bees when their services won't be needed anyway.

RecycleMichael

The bees sound just like us.

What do you call a musician who breaks up with his girlfriend?

Homeless.

At least the 2 Dems you mentioned aren't trying to hide their sexuality.

Well said- thanks.

First, what in the hell is the point of that retort? Second, if you recall, McGreevy was in heterosexual marriage at the time he "came out". Sure sounds like he was hiding his sexual preference from at least one person--his wife.

I think the point was obvious, much like your obvious glee at the private misfortunes of the Edwards family.

McGreevy has come clean, and told the truth, as has Edwards.

Unlike Larry Craig, Bob Allen, Glenn Murphy, Ted Haggard, or Mark Foley to name a few. There is a difference.

Basically if you enjoy seeing Republicans  destroyed by their own hypocrisy, it's been a very, very good past couple of years.

What's interesting is the canibalism of him in the media.  "He's toast" "His political career is over" "He won't be at the Democratic Convention".  He will be forgiven in the media in short order and future stories will likely mention the strength of the Edwards family through this crisis.

Personally, I think he ought to go to the convention.  With this revelation, he's done as a potential VP candidate (not that he was under serious consideration).

I wasn't the least bit surprised that he'd been schtoinking someone other than his wife, just surprised he got caught.  I seriously doubt this was his only affair.  Pmcalk is correct Money, power, and infidelity seem to go hand-in-hand.  Some people are just better at concealing it than others.

I'd had him pegged as a disingenous opportunist, this whole episode confirmed it.
