That sentence nestled among other winners in Obama's 42 minute speech startled me with its simplicity. This guy is good. And he made me feel good. That was historical, spellbinding and perfectly on mark. Incredible that he wrote it himself.

Anyone else have a favorite part or a criticizm?

we vs us

"America is better than the last eight years.  America is better than this."

He had a lot of good lines tonight.

And he took it to McCain, which is just what he needs to be doing.

I thought the part about questioning McCain's judgment in voting with Bush 90% of the time was effective, and that McCain thought $5M a year was middle class.  Obviously good delivery, but too often he was just stringing together buzz words and ideas and contradicting his own points (how long has Sen. Biden been serving with the majority, Barack?)

I thought the ending was awkward and belied everything he had just said.  Instead of regular folk the Heroes are exalted on a pantheon; instead of MLK's humility or whatever they blow a couple million bucks in fireworks - that they left the lights on for.  And the final glimpse of our Heroes had Biden and Obama struggling to be the one ushering the other hand-on-back from the stage.

Chicken Little

Lots of policy details explained effectively:

Out of Iraq
Foreign oil independence in 10 years
Tax relief for 95% of working families
Equal pay for equal work

I had several favorite lines, but I especially liked"

"We are the party of Roosevelt. We are the party of Kennedy. So don't tell me that Democrats won't defend this country. Don't tell me that Democrats won't keep us safe."

I also liked the discussion on how we truly messure a successful economy--not by the fortune 500, number of millionaires, etc..., but how the average person is getting by.

I thought he gave a fabulous speech.
I'm trying to find a transcript of the speech, but I really liked the lines about using fear, b/c they are out of ideas and 'turning a big election into small issues'.

I'd like to know the last time a politician or candidate filled an NFL stadium to listen to a speech?  Has it ever happened?  I'd like to know.  Please, someone enlighten me.  You can  call him names all you want.  If you watched that speech last night, you witnessed a truly historic event.

Even if McCain wins this election, we're certainly coming a long ways from... 'want some wood?'

That was some serious propaganda.  Did you notice the Roman columns?  The giant adoring crowd?  That rivaled some of the all time greatest propaganda I have ever seen, including WWII newsreels.  I didn't know Dean and the Obama campaign had it in them.  They have definitedly added a new chapter to the play book.

I can hear the McCain campaign today, "Find me a stadium -- now."

His one line of outreach to Latinos was somewhat lacking though.  He was trying to appease the old union crowd at the same time.  But the remark about not dividing families was appreciated.

Al's speech reached for greatness.  It was outstanding too.

I heard somewhere that Kennedy did just that when he was nominated, but I have no idea where the person I heard it from got the info.

Kennedy's speech was at the L.A. Coliseum in 1960.

I didn't know he wrote it all himself. Awesome. I agree, it was an incredible speech and watching it last night is something I'll never forget.

I loved the part where he said "You're expected to pull yourself up by your bootstraps even if you don't have any boots. You're on your own."

carltonplace

"I get it", that was the part that struck me.
