Interesting choice.  It's going to make it difficult to attack Obama for lack of experience, though.

Palin is definitely better than Ridge.

Picking Ridge would be saying "the security angle is the only thing I got going for me"

RecycleMichael

She was runner-up in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant when she was 20.

She is tough...goes on moose hunts and went back to work only three days after having a baby earlier this year.

Not bad.
Power is nothing till you use it.

McCain hasn't been attacking him for lack of experience, he's been attacking him for poor decision making.  It was the Clintons that pushed the "lack of experience" agenda.

McCain has been touting his own experience in the face of comments that BO has made.  I don't see this changing, it is a huge advantage, and quite different than making inflammatory comments about Obama's experience like Bill and Hillary have done.  All McCain has to do is just play one of their attack ads and put "I'm John McCain and I approve of this message" at the end of it.  From what I understand, in the upcoming months there are several new ads comming featuring both Bill and Hillary's commentary over the past year.   Mr. McCain doesn't have to make the attack, the script has allready been written.

Besides, McCain is old enough to be experienced for both of them. [;)]

we vs us

Upside: first woman on the Republican ticket; younger than McCain; possibly representative of a new breed of Republican.

Downside:  no national name recognition; not the best public speaker (in the couple of soundbites I've seen, anyway); reportedly quite conservative, hence not a bridge-builder.

Still, it's a bit of a left-field shot from McCain, which is good for his campaign at this point.  Anything that can add a wobble to the news cycle right now is a bonus.

McCain loads the 12 guage. Takes careful aim. And blows off both feet.

Sure, I want a woman moments away from leadership of the most powerful country in the world who is barely known outside of a state that re-elects a corrupt congressman even when he bold face steals from the government.

McCain's choice was much more important than Obama's because of the age/senility issues. It may have been a politically savvy choice considering the boobs that were available (no pun intended) but I would point out that you guys are marketing and political insiders. The general public doesn't know squat about her or Alaska. His judgement is cloudy.

Gas, you seem to think that remarks made during a contentious primary actually hold long term meaning. Voodoo Politics. Like this election occurs in a vacuum. Remarks by former republican contenders are also on tape and ready for use.

RecycleMichael

OK, she named her kids...Bristol, Piper, Track, Willow and get this, named her newborn Trig Paxson Van Palin.

Track?

Van Palin?

How can we trust her with our fuure when she does that to her kids?

The sexism in this thread is nauseating. She has not even been positively named yet and you are ripping on her. So what is it? You worried because she might have hot flashes?
Someone get Hoss a pacifier.

I think they are pretty cool names.  Certainly better than the over 10,000,000 babies named "Jackson" in the last couple of years.

Why is everyone picking on her?  She's strong, successful and very family oriented.

Some people are so sexist.  I hope no one makes any racist comments just because she's in a mixed marriage.

To be fair, when I saw Biden's son introduced, my first thought was,

Beau Biden....
banana-fana fo fiden,
fee fi mo miden...
Biden.

So, my husband just thought I was crazy, but then John Stewart started singing the same thing.

Like voting against the war in Iraq?  Can you give me a specific example that supports the charge?

Here's one:  McCain-Palin.

Besides a gimmick pick to siphon off Hillary discontents, what does Palin bring to the table?

Temperament?

There's no name recognition, she's not tested nationally, she's not from a swing state (but one that decriminalized marijuana?!), she's not a dynamic speaker, she carries no issue, she's anti-choice and works against gays and lesbians.  The Biden-Palin debate will be interesting.
