"Yes, but she'll energize the right!"  Its all about winning for these guys. The repubs don't care about experience. To them presidents are figureheads that execute their orders. This is a gamble with our country. She is not qualified in any way to be a president and a VP has to have the ability to step in.

What the hell are you talking about, experience? Tell me about Obama's long legislative or executive background. This guy started running for predident shortly after he got elected to the Senate. And, remind me, what are Obama's qualifications to be president? I hope the dems make this the issue to the voters.

Longer than the 1 1/2 years a governor under investigation in a corrupt state has. And about 2 years experience meeting, understanding, and talking to the American people. All of them not just his base. His lack of Senatorial experience is a plus. His managing of a campaign from obscurity to Mile High stadium against more experienced career politicians shows his skills. He picks the right people and thats what managing is about.

Qualifications? Read or view the speech. Then compare and contrast to a fighter jockey who graduated in the bottom 5 of the academy but still got to fly sophisticated jets (thanks Dad), lost three of them and has run on his POW status ever since. Other than that, what are his qualifications?
You lose on this one G.

I think he is. Its getting harder and harder for him to pretend to be independent/libertarian. This is real stuff Gas. No independents or libertarians are in this race. Standing on the sidelines sniping and laughing at both candidates puts you in the same league as those who disdain our system altoghether.

Interesting choice.  It's going to make it difficult to attack Obama for lack of experience, though.

McCain hasn't been attacking him for lack of experience, he's been attacking him for poor decision making.  It was the Clintons that pushed the "lack of experience" agenda.

Really?  What about this:

Yes, McCain often couples his claims of inexperience with lack of judgement, but he definitely has tried to label Obama as "inexperienced."

And his accusations of inexperience are mainly in the area of foreign affairs.  So he picks the governor of Alaska--who has absolutely no experience with international matters.  I can't imagine how she will be able to debate Biden on foreign affairs.

She is tough...goes on moose hunts and went back to work only three days after having a baby earlier this year.

Not bad.

She sounds just like a "Northern Exposure" character.

It will be fun to watch won't it.

OK, she named her kids...Bristol, Piper, Track, Willow and get this, named her newborn Trig Paxson Van Palin.

Track?

Van Palin?

How can we trust her with our fuure when she does that to her kids?

Actually, those names make her sound like a greenie, granola-eating librul.

Quite a few in the GOP won't like this: She vetoed a bill that would have banned benefits to same-sex couples.

At least the Log Cabin Republicans will like her. Not so sure about the Christianists, though.

Sure, I want a woman moments away from leadership of the most powerful country in the world who is barely known outside of a state that re-elects a corrupt congressman even when he bold face steals from the government.

Sheesh, you complain about Oklahoma electing a corruption-buster like Coburn and then associate the governor of Alaska with some corrupt Senator?

You're grasping this morning Waterboy, it's not like you.

She's got merit, and she's a true outsider, unlike McCain, Obama, and Biden.

Wow, and the Democrats just picked a guy with three years in the U.S. Senate (with a muddled voting record) to LEAD their ticket????

Your arguments this morning are becoming more ludicrus by the minute.

I'll still have a beer with you anytime, but you just keep jamming your foot in your mouth trying to knock down the GOP ticket.

. . .It may have been a politically savvy choice considering the boobs that were available . . .

Seriously.  What's up with the alarmingly shallow Republican bench this season?  Is everyone in hiding?  Or did everyone defect to Ron Paul's campaign?

The Democrats took all the empty suits this season.

No, here's what the Dems are saying:

"Let's be honest: John McCain clearly wanted Tom Ridge or Joe Lieberman, but he was afraid to buck his party's choice ideologues. So then they looked at Mittens, but having a baker's dozen homes wasn't looking so hot. So he figured that with Pawlenty, he might make a play for Minnesota, but that got shot down over the last week as it become increasingly obvious that Biden would wipe the floor with him in their debate.

Throw in Obama's ground-shifting speech last night, and it was clear that McCain had to throw a hail mary to just remain in the game, much less be competitive.

So we get Sarah Palin, who has a fairly compelling personal story and is an attractive woman, but has scant political experience, zero name recognition outside of political junky circles, faces an ethical investigation by her own legislature, and will now be forced to run a grueling national campaign despite having an infant child at home.

Those are the marks of desperation, and really, given his precarious electoral position, John McCain had no choice.

The dems are crapping all over themselves right now and I am laughing my rear off over it.

And incidentally, what "investigation" are you referring to? Oh, the one involving the purported sought after termination of a law enforcement officer that tasered a child for kicks. That investigation?  Oh, and who started this investigation? It would not be someone with a political axe to grind. In any case, it is not as if anyone in this race kicked off their politcal campaign at the home of a person who bombed government buildings. Jeez, know your facts.

As for qualifications, other than employing 300 foreign policy advisers and reading teleprompted scripts, I would appreciate you to point out one legislative accomplishment that Obama developed and shepherded through Congress.

Someone get Hoss a pacifier.

Once again, though, I say "who?" to his choice.

She doesn't have the name recognition that Biden does.

Biden's going to eat her lunch on the debate circuit...she's not a very eloquent speaker.

iplaw

I think the responses we're seeing from democrats right now reflect the fear that this pick has generated within the democratic party.

At least we put the person with limited experience on the bottom half of the ticket instead of the top...
