Doesn't Palin's millions of federal dollars to Wasilla also contradict McCain's stance against earmarks?

She hired a lobbyist to get them, fer cryin' out loud.

Coburn sure wouldn't like her much.

Coburn might respond to her religious radicalism.  He depends on the religious nut vote too.

That's ironic, greenie libs love things like rail systems until the GOP VP candidate secures federal funding for it.

"There was $500,000 for a youth shelter, $1.9 million for a transportation hub, $900,000 for sewer repairs, and $15 million for a rail project"

Yute shelter sounds pretty worthy, as is sanitary sewers, transportation hub, and rail.

Had she not sought earmarks, the Dims would be parading out stories of her gross incompetence and neglect while mayor of Wasilla.

At least WaPo did make mention of this:

"In addition, Palin has reversed course on at least one major earmark: After initially supporting the $223 million bridge, which was to connect the town of Ketchikan with a remote island, she reversed course last year and canceled the project because of cost overruns. Critics have dubbed the project the "Bridge to Nowhere."

Keep in mind, a place like Wasilla is not exactly a tourist mecca.  I'd imagine it's pretty hard to do any sort of major infrastructure project w/o federal funds.

If a GOP politician doesn't partake of earmarks, they are worthless.  If they do they are a crook.

Dims are desperate.

Don't you agree her behavior goes against McCain's stance?

Conan, I've seen you rant and rave on this very forum about earmarks. Are you going to conveniently ignore these?

I have not ignored them at all, I addressed them, even itemized for you.  I've not been to Wasilla, Alaska, but I'm willing to bet raising $500K for a Yute shelter, $900K for sewer system repairs, and a $15mm rail system are tough w/o additional federal funds.

She put her foot down on a very wasteful project, which was the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere."  That was done well in advance of her being brought onto the GOP ticket.

I do admire her creativity as a leader to secure funding for her city.  It shows a certain level of resourcefulness for being stuck up in the great white north.  I also think it's great she's somewhat of an antithesis to McCain.

So far as I know, she's never secured public funding for corrupt slumlords and her stance on earmarks seems to be the same as the candidate you are supporting:

"Obama's campaign has taken a hard stance against the world of lobbying in the nation's capital. Obama said he limits his own efforts to get money for pet projects -- a process known as earmarking -- to those that benefit the public. "

Gee, thanks for the concern.

Many believe that McCain showed poor judgment with the Palin pick.  So the best thing to do would be to stop talking about it.  Great advice.
