Recently while at the dog park with my family, a woman was extremely rude to us, causing my daughter to cry.  My 5 year old and I were playing frizbe off to the side within the dog park and this woman made point to come over and point out the rule about not haveing kids in the park.  I explained that I know what the rule is, but that we have been comming here every weekend WITH MY DAUGHTER and never had a problem, that is why we are over here.  Long story short, she freakin called 911.  My poor daughter was crying thinking that we were going to jail.  It was really a sad ordeal.  Needless to say, we left, but we WILL continue to go there.  So everybody with a child please be ware of this crazy lady who obviously has no life.  She is about 50-60 yrs of age with a long gray braid and leathery skin.  She has a black dog and I think she considers herself the dog park police.  While we were there, she managed to point out that there was a couple of dogs who had not been nutered and even got on to a sweet couple for not picking up poop, when all they were doing was waiting for their dog to finish.  Please sound off and let me know what fellow Tulsans think.  Am I in the wrong?

Uhhh, Yeah.

The rules against having children inside the dog area are clearly posted. Did you not read the rules or did you think they didn't apply to you because you got away with breaking them before?

I am not excusing the lady being rude. But I agree with the rule in this case.
Power is nothing till you use it.

Yeah, she's been rude to several people including me, but I just laughed at her...I'm finding that many of the people there think they are special.  Oh well.

The park has that rule to protect your daughter. A 5-year-old doesn't have a clue how to handle a dog that might become aggressive towards her. You shouldn't be taking her there. Sorry, but it's a good policy.

Now calling 911 on you was completely out of line and that's not what 911 is for -- it certainly wasn't an emergency! I hope she was reprimanded for misuse of the 911 system.

The neutering rule is also a very good one. A un-neutered male Westie tried to molest our male Schnauzer last week. It was embarrassing for the Westie's owners and he was a nuisance to us and our dog. He wouldn't leave our dog alone.

The Bark Park is a great addition to the community and our dog loves it. But if the rules aren't followed, and it becomes a playground for kids, many, including us, will stop going there.

Eh, I don't mind kids as long as they are under direct and immediate supervision of their parents. Luckily, I haven't had any issues at the dog park. My dog has a tendency to bark at random guys for no reason. He barked at one guy for a good 10-15 seconds and it definitely made me feel bad/awkward, but so far, that's the worst experience we've had.

On another note, what happened to the big pool? The first week it was open, there were two pools. Now only the small pool remains.

Park users bring the pools for everyone to use. Someone probably took it, or the wind did.

Shouldn't dogs, kids, families and park all go together? what the heck? Some people just don't have a life. There's like 25 rules for the bark park and not a single rule that says "Have Fun"

Yes, families should have fun with their dogs,  but there are other family dogs in the park and safety is a priority.  If you insist on your children playing with your family dog allow it in your home/yard.

Allow the dogs to enjoy themselves at the park.  Be considerate and follow the rules.  The park is for the dogs not children.  There's other parks for children around town.

could the rules be posted here? I have not been yet.

My dumb ***** thinks she is the uber dog.  In spite of what the Dog Whisperer says she knows I am in charge (I can take the food bowl, sit stay, etc.) and respects her "brother" and a couple other dogs we hang out with, but when a new dog comes around or we go to a park it's on.

Thoughts?

Per the above:  the lady is a jerk.  No need to be rude about it, she simply should have said that she knows some dogs are not good with children and that is why the rule is in place.  Remind you that it is a safety issue for your daughter and a comfort issue for the dogs.

I have a boy a little older than that who is good with animals, but still not a good idea to bring him in.  99% chance nothing happens, but rules is rules.

Cannon, have you taken her to an off leash park? Dogs behave very differently when they are on their leash...they are doing what they percieve is their job: protecting you and the pack. Same thing at home; they are in protect mode.

Take her to the park, she will figure it out very quickly and have a great time. You'll be right there and if she feels threatened or scared she will run to you. Keep the leash on you and get her out if she can't handle it, but I doubt it will come to that.

Carlton -- you are so right! We didn't know how Cooper was going to react to the dog park. It took him about half a second to figure it out and leave us in the dust. It was such a kick seeing him take off and run the entire park and greet every human -- he was more interested in people than the other dogs: (hey, did you meet me yet? gimme some love. OK, that's good. gotta move on, I got more people who need to see me.)

Seeing those dogs play like that is watching pure joy.
