Anyone involved in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure this coming Saturday morn?

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer May 2007.  She has four sisters and three of them also have breast cancer.

This Race is close to my heart.

If you'd like to help me raise money for Breast Cancer research, please send me a PM and I'll send you the link to the Race for a Cure page.

Now I see all my posts showed up?  How weird!

Somebody, please remove the others. Thanks.

So no one here has been "touched" by breast cancer in the sense that you know someone/related to someone with it? Or who is a survivor?

Come on Tulsa forum, join the Race for a Cure!

Is anyone taking part in the race?

I've a friend that is running the 5k, does that count?

HoneySuckle

Yes, of course it counts.  I was just surprised we didn't have anyone else chiming in.

There was quite a turn out, and I'm glad I took part.  Very moving.  Sad to see how many died (people walking in their memory), but the survivors put a smile on my face.

My mother and her four sisters all have breast cancer.  Only one has beaten it the last two years and counting.  Very close to home!

we vs us

I would've signed up in a heartbeat if this wasn't a crucial training weekend for me.

I was running along riverside around 10:30am or so and got a good look at just how many walkers there were.  There were hundreds! It was really amazing, and gratifying to see.

Next year I'm definitely in.

Thanks for the pictures.

I'm not much of a walker race person, I enjoy running. If I was in "T" Towne I would not mind running the 5K or 10K what ever they had. Looks like lots of people showed up.

The national rowing community does "Row For The Cure" to benefit the SGKF.  There are 19 regattas a year benefitting it.  The Seattle regatta raised $83K this weekend.

We have been touched with it in my family as well.  I don't believe there's many families who have not.

Guys need to remember this is also a killer of men and should remember self-exams are important.  One of my male friends was killed by it a few years ago.

Enjoyed our walk Sat. morning.  It was our first one.

We did the untimed 5k walk and I think next year I'd do the timed walk/run though.

I walk too fast I guess.

Still the weather was great and it was great to see so many people out.

and for the roadkill count: 3 squirrels, 1 skunk and 1 raccoon.

This is definitely going to be an annual event for us.

It was amazing seeing the "male" survivors.  I made sure to remind my husband that he has to check his "chest" frequently.  Some men think they don't have anything to worry about.

One question.  Do men get screened annually like we do?  My mammogram is tomorrow!  Is there a specific test for men?
