I call BS.

Noble?!?  Are you kidding?

Good god, what do you think a Republican presidential candidate is going to accomplish a month before the election????... the same guy who flip-flopped on the Bush tax cuts... the same guy who pushes deregulation uber alles... who thinks Phil Gramm is a great guy, especially on economics policies...

Politics over country.
The very same reason he chose Sarah Palin.

He's consistently choosing politics over his country... and using the same Karl Rove-style campaign that completely belies his 2000 primary run against Bush... fire up the koolaid drinking base... unbelievable...

Completely and utterly political... if you don't believe me, I have a bridge in Alaska for you...

Compare McCain2000 to McCain2008... rinse... repeat...

total bs.

If Obama'd had the cajones to do it instead of McCain, you guys and gals would be peeing yourselves with all sorts of patriotic clap trap and glee right now.

That's a hillarious photo, Hoss.  I'm adding it to my collection.

And conversely, you guys would be doing cartwheels saying how Obama couldn't multitask.

I say this has little to do with wanting to really do the right thing, but everything to do with appearing to do the right thing while trying to 'take a breath' because the McCain campaign is floundering a bit.  This time, it appears the media ain't bitin'.

And now it appears there are talks about canceling or postponing the veep debate.  Isn't that convenient?

FOTD

This is too good. The train to the Presidency leads right through him....

Touche?  If you say so.  I think I could make any candidate look bad if I spliced together a bunch of stuff.  If the point is that Obama pauses a lot when he speaks, then I agree.  I would rather him pause then to speak thoughtlessly (when is McCain going to fire the head of the FEC?[;)]).

I am sure that all of the candidates have said some stupid stuff on the trail.  I just thought the one of Palin (who of course knows more than anyone about energy) talking gibberish was humorous.

You do have to wonder, though, if McCain's campaign is concerned about her ability to speak.  They keep her constantly sequestered, and now are trying to postpone her debate.  What are they afraid of?

More Saturday Night Live fodder or an episode like the Jr. Miss "Well in The Iraq...."

I am not sure McCain knows how to get to D.C.

He has missed 109 out of the last 110 votes. No other member has missed as many votes as him.

He is not on any committees that are involved in finance and his party won't be drafting the agreement.

There will be an agreement today and it will be signed by the President. McCain has nothing to do with it.

He is flying to Washington so he can act like he is involved. He is suspending his campaign because he and his VP candidate are not prepared for the debates and he needs to save his money hoping that he can launch an October surprise on Obama.

How many votes has Obama been present for in the last 1.5 years?

How do you know who is drafting the agreement or how it's being drafted?  Are you invovled?

Furthermore, even Bill Clinton is saying McCain's choice to delay the debate was in "good faith"

You guys are delusional.  The guy that's been begging the Lord Messiah to debate for 6 motnhs now is somehow afraid of the Teleprompter reader?

RecycleMichael

Yes. Iplaw. I do know.

Obama has missed 48% of his votes since running for President. McCain has missed 64%.

Yes, I do know who is drafting the agreement. Democrat Barney Frank has been working with Secretary Paulson. Here is a link to the committee's work.

Iplaw...you are the one who is uninformed. You just want to attack all democrats, but this time the democrats are coming up with the solutions.

President Bush invited McCain and Obama to be involved. The committee doesn't need them to be, but the American public needs to have confidence in the solution. Involving the two of them makes sense from a political perspective.

IP--do you know how to count?  Six months ago was March.  Obama didn't get the nomination until June.

McCain hasn't been begging to debate.  He's been begging to do "townhalls" because he knows that, with any other format, McCain will lose big time.

iplaw

You think Frank wrote that draft by himself?  Get real.  Put down the crack pipe.  The DEMOCRATS AREN'T WORKING ALONE on this.

The final bill will be a conglomeration of the president's proposal and Congress' counter proposal.  The bill, like all others will have admendments added by opposing party members, else they won't have enough consensus to pass the bill.

The president will have his say as well as both democrats and republicans. Even Reid was quoted as saying the final bill is worthless without republican support.

Democrats aren't the lone ranger in this process.

He has been asking Obama to do town hall meetings since he was the presumptive nominee, quite some time before he was nominated at the convention, but this isn't the first time I've had to point this out. Maybe it was more like almost 5 months...BEWARE: Slate defines townhall meetings as debates.

Townhalls are debates, unless you have a VERY strange and narrow definition of the term.  Questions posed by real people and not moderators are the only difference.

In fact, one of the debates is a townhall, and I suspect it will be indistinguishable from the rest of the debates, sans the annoying moderators asking questions.

I disagree.

The town hall will be different.  That format requires having a vast knowledge of the issues and solutions at your fingertips which comes from experience, not ideology, because it is far more random than fielding predictable questions from the MSM's.
